Was just scanning the firewall logs when I noticed this. It was the intruder more than the attempted attack which caught my attention. The nature of the attack itself is insidiously clever. It goes back to the null character and pi hacks of the 80's. Nice try, but no cigar, my little "angrypacket" dude.

OpenSocial is currently being researched by Multiply. Given the inherent broad-ranging security risks of these kinds of apps, I trust that the Multiply Users & Developers Group will approach any considerations of OpenSocial's viability with its members' safety at the forefront.

US Video Shows Hacker Hit on Power Grid

From the page: "'The [Aurora Generator Test] video is not a realistic representation of how the power system would operate,' said Stan Johnson, a manager at the North American Electric Reliability Corp., the Princeton, N.J.-based organization charged with overseeing the power grid."

    ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Okay, kids... Here we go again with the criminalization of hackers. The negative stereotypes are bad enough, but this?!? Why does the U.S. Department of Homeland Security find it necessary to denigrate an entire segment of technologically adepts with exaggerated special effects? Not even having seen this video yet, one can only surmise that this cheap tactic is strictly geared towards elevating the shock value of an admittedly sensitive issue.

True "hackers" (crackers, phreakers, etc. inclusive) do not seek to destroy. It looks like the battle lines are being drawn anew. What's next? Will the "safe" 1337 soon be required to carry government issued registration cards?

From the page: "* The Fs Sys Net and Process extensions in the Metasploit 2.7 Meterpreter have been combined into a single extension that is automatically loaded in Metasploit 3. The "stdapi" extension can be used to manipulate files list and manage processes migrate the payload into a new process edit a file on the server forward a port execute a command and many other tasks. The "priv" extension (accessible by the "use priv" command) provides the hashdump command for dumping password hashes and the timestomp command for erasing file system timestamps."
    ========================================
What this fails to mention is that the timestomp command can also be used to change dates. Want to f*ck with the average computer forensics l3mur who's trying to establish an activity trail? Fast forward the system's date... oh- about 10 years into the future will do. Heaps o' fun!!!

    Yo, Braindrop- Game ON!!!

For those who are just tuning in, welcome and fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be one hellacious ride, believe it. In the meantime, get your refreshments ready and feel free to take notes.

Backstory: Mr. Blankenship's theft of my husband's work came about immediately following the infamous hacker crackdown known as Operation Sundevil, a/k/a "Sundowner." Many people were arrested. Governmental authorities at federal and local levels handled the entire situation unprofessionally and unethically (like that's a surprise, huh?). However, one individual, perhaps spared due to his young age at the time, was never charged. Care to guess who that person was? ;oD

Anyhow, Mr. Blankenship continues to prove in real life that he is anyone but +++The Mentor+++, yet insists vehemently that he is despite mounting public self-humiliations. Most recent occurance was at a lecture at MIT on computer security (details forthcoming shortly). This was one of many instances when Mr. Blankenship, hyping himself as +++The Mentor+++, demostrated before witnesses (who know my husband in real life) that he is incapable of bypassing security measures created by my husband.

Wow- that must've sucked out loud, huh, Loyd? So... It would seem that the last line of defense would be to attempt to undermine a couple's marriage. Cheap shot, man. Oh, let us not forget to add: unsuccessful. Even a marginally cognizant person knows that if one can't hang with the big dogs they'd best stay on the porch.

    *~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Update: Sunday, September 10, 2006: Hmmm... Apparently I'm not the only one who can't keep "his/her/its mouth" shut. Why, oh why, dear Loyd, do you have such an issue with online gender? What are you afraid of? Got some latent tendencies you're trying hard to suppress? Do you feel the overwhelming need to compensate for a lack of something? Or is it simply the fact that this 100% female loud-mouthed bitch has, metaphorically speaking, bigger cojones than you? I've been baited by better. Sir, you're no master at it, let alone any type of mentor. However, you seem to have had favorable experiences while playing with wood.

The original reference to Sundevil as being called "Sundowner" comes from the trite blatherings of the badge-toting zealots who swore that those arrested would never again see the light of day. And FYI, that portion of the entry was clarified well before the discovery of your most recent attempt to slam me. Nice try, but no Guinness.

Oh... Your anticipation of facts not yet submitted into evidence will have to be postponed a little while longer. You may have an adorable niece to exploit for photo ops, but I've got daily responsibilities to children, 30 gorgeous and peaceful acres upon which to rear them, and various volunteer service commitments within my local community. Enjoy your own personal Sword of Damocles some more. In my spare time I'll be dusting off the family gauntlets. They're quite handy for
    reaping cons.

My husband and I literally burst out laughing when I read this aloud. Old-schoolers may possibly remember the "Garage Door Revolt" of 1986 in San Francisco. Most of today's technology only requires a little more effort, but the challenges remain minimal. It's still our world. Deal with it. It'll probably be us who ends up restoring the global playing field to level standards.

Funny because it appropriately mirrors many of the misconceptions of any percieved "hacker steroptype". Scary at the same time because of the overabundance of clueless luddites who would (and probably do) take this drivel to heart.

    From the Personality Characteristics section:

"In terms of Myers-Briggs and equivalent psychometric systems, hackerdom appears to concentrate the relatively rare INTJ and INTP types; that is, introverted, intuitive, and thinker types (as opposed to the extroverted-sensate personalities that predominate in the mainstream culture). ENT[JP] types are also concentrated among hackers but are in a minority."

No doubt. This ENTJ, married to an old-school elite, fits all too well into the Hacker profile. Funny thing is, I was like this years before ever discovering computers. Go figure... **LMAO**
