Out of the all the two cents already published about WordPress.com upcoming premium themes marketplace, my own thoughts are best described by the following:

You can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on. - George W. Bush
What I think of WordPress.com marketplace:

It's a brilliant idea and I can't wait to work twice as hard for half of the money (50/50 split with WordPress.com) selling CSS only GPL licensed premium themes to uninformed WordPress.com users and give those themes to everyone else for free because I still wouldn't be working hard enough to justify my above minimum wage income supported by the generous WordPress blog platform.

Coming up with a high quality premium theme without breaking any law isn't already hard enough. To all you lazy theme designers spending only a week on each theme, step your game up. If you get on WordPress.com's good side, you'll get the chance to sell GPL licensed CSS only themes to more than 1.7 million WordPress.com users. And that's important because those uninformed WordPress.com users, making you work twice as hard to provide support, is definitely the crowd to cater."

Every time I log into my WordPress blog and check the comments I give thanks for the people who created Akismet. What a blessing. If you have a WP blog you REALLY need this plugin!

It automatically identifies almost all of the SPAM and SPLOG comments that come into a WordPress blog and makes them fast and easy to review and delete.

Any that get by it can be easily marked as SPAM, unapproved, or deleted. Those you mark as SPAM will then get caught if they hit you blog again (and they will).

What a great time-saver - and it is highly accurate.

From the page: "We can't stand spam. Who can? You have better things to do with your life than deal with the underbelly of the internet. Automattic Kismet (Akismet for short) is a collaborative effort to make comment and trackback spam a non-issue and restore innocence to blogging, so you never have to worry about spam again.
Akismet is free for personal use.

In the spirit of helping the blogosphere as much as possible, we've decided to make Akismet free for as many people as possible. "

Better productivity tools are essential. What if you could post a request on your blog/site asking for individuals and have a plugin automatically collect and collate their contact information for you. Even better - what if it could export (or your contact manager could import - directly from that information.

I just realized that I can no longer tolerate productivity tools and online systems that do not do what I want them to do CONSISTENTLY. Developers need to understand that EVERY CLICK COUNTS. Improve or be replaced by someone else's tools and sites that do "get it".

Anyone know of a plugin that does what I just described? Does the one I'm linking in here do it? Here's the deal: someone has to have the idea, someone else has to develop them, and someone like me and others like me will tell the world how good (or bad) they are.

Where do your dreams fit into that scenario? In the past building a better mousetrap did NOT send people to your door. Today build the best tool/system and make sure enough people like me know about it and THEY WILL.

From the page: "Version 0.2 Beta of the Wordpress CRM Plugin Now available - Here is the next version of the plugin. It is now capable of being populated by both users and administrators from the front-end and back-end. It has snail mail capabilities using .txt files that are available to download or view. The sorting/searching functions have been beefed up.
You can edit any part of the information. You can manually add contact information per record. I have split the creation and management into two main tabs. You can create a user from the one of the plugin pages rather than going over to the users tab. The back-end forms are equipped with a pull down menu of current users to populate that field easily.

We are hoping to develop numerous applications from this core including membership management and business management."

By now you've heard of the whole RSS thing and maybe you've even started using it in various ways to subscribe to blogs or offer your blog's content to others. Today I would like to take you on a little ride to show you how, without really knowing much of anything about RSS and how it works, you can do some very powerful and useful things to add, filter and republish content.

If you are still using WordPress 2.0 or older this might help you decide to upgrade.

From the page: "Advanced WYSIWYG in Wordpress 2.1 -

If you're a Wordpress user, and have the slightest grasp of HTML, then at some point in your blogging life you're sure to have flung an insult at the built-in WYSIWYG editor that comes with Wordpress. While it suffices to accomplish the most minor formatting tasks, like bold, italics, and strikethough strikethrough, much is left to be desired.

Sure, there are keyboard commands to perform other standard formatting norms, like underline, but to the Wordpress noob these are non-intuitive and a bit wonky to use.

To those who have, or are thinking of committing WYSIWYG Hara-Kiri.....wait!!! All hope is not lost. That is to say, Wordpress 2.1 has a little trick up its sleeve: an Advanced Toolbar."

Another good reason to use WordPress - if your template is correctly customized your site will meet accessibility standards.

From the page: "Making your site accessible- or get sued.
5 October 2007 - Besides all the other great reasons to use WordPress as a Content Management System- here's yet another: You won't have to worry about getting sued for not being accessible to the blind. Because WordPress adheres to W3C standards- and uses clean CSS, if your theme is done correctly- your site will meet all ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements- something that Target is learning the expensive way:

Judge Allows Class action Lawsuit over Target web site

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge in California has allowed a class-action lawsuit to proceed against Target Corp brought by plaintiffs claiming the discount retailer's Web site is inaccessible to the blind.

The ruling allows blind individuals, who say that many other retailers have designed their Web sites to be accessible through special software that vocalizes online content, to join collectively in the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs contend that the company does not allow them full and equal access to Target stores because they cannot obtain online product and sales information.

The decision, made public on Tuesday by Judge Marilyn Patel of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, also rejected Target's motion for summary judgment in the case.

"This is a tremendous step forward for blind people throughout the country who for too long have been denied equal access to the Internet economy¯"
