    I personally know three of the five people behind SEM Clubhouse. They collectively have expansive knowledge of SEO, ppc, and programming. Anyone they're working with is bound to be equally sharp so I highly recommend subscribing, reading, and implementing their advice.

  • Google Updates PageRank Again? Adjusts Paid Link Penalty?

    Rated Oct 29 2007 1 review google, seo, pagerank, linking, sem searchengineland.com

    I know many are tired of the pagerank subject; however, this is breaking news just mentioned to me by Vinz, and then confirmed by this post stumbled by Andy Beard.

    From the page: "Google Updates PageRank Again? Adjusts Paid Link Penalty?

    Andy Beard reports that Google seems to have made their third PageRank update this month. This one appears to have reversed some of the downgrades in PageRank seen by some sites.

    We know that some of the PageRank changes were due to paid link selling, as we reported was happening back in early October in our Official: Selling Paid Links Can Hurt Your PageRank Or Rankings On Google post. However, not all the sites impacted in recent changes were selling links (several strongly deny this), so there may be other reasons related to the drop."

  • Why Stephen Colbert May Be the Prince of Social Media |...

    Rated Oct 29 2007 5 reviews social networking, social media, seo, smo searchenginepeople.com

    From the page: "why is Stephen Colbert good at Social Media?

    When taking the majority of the North American population, people tend to be fickle and impulsive in their stance towards media entities. Now taking netizens (65%-75% of which are N.American) into consideration, you can multiply that factor of impulsive behaviour by X10.

    Phew, I'm trying to pace myself here when getting to the point... Well the point is Colbert has what it takes to influence the masses of people online towards achieving his goals. Let's put some numbers into play:

    The homepage of ColbertNation.com itself has had:

    * 64 Diggs
    * 38 StumbleUpon Approvals
    * 138% + Increase in Alexa Reach over the last 3 months
    * 170 User Comments for the last 3 posts (Oct 23-25)

    All of this means that Stephen is great at creating sticky content that spreads virally pretty fast. Excluding the social media and search engine optimization heavyweights of this industry, I'd say Colbert is doing fairly well as the Prince of Social Media Optimization (SMO) in his niche."

  • Styling your link condoms & Tim Nash "stuff" Blog

    Rated Oct 29 2007 2 reviews seo, pagerank, linking, sem, no follow timnash.co.uk

    I suspect Tim is going to get a ton of unrelated traffic from this post on using nofollow links. Why do references coined by men so frequently involve innuendo or sexual connotations?

    From the page: "I thought I would have a light hearted look at ways to style a "nofollow" link to help identify them for your users and the possible dangers.

    For those unfamiliar with the term link condom, it simply means a link which does not pass any juice, normally this is a simple "nofollow" but it can be redirects and various other techniques as well. I don't know who first coined the term but when combined with Link juice and master link baiter's you begin to realise that perhaps the search engine optimisation industry has a little way to go yet before we reach a level of maturity."

    It must be truth day - if you want to be successful you need to know the truth, so read this - or at least read the excerpts - but really, read the whole thing.
    Successful people constantly learn and most do that by reading. Then you have to APPLY what you learn or it doesn't do you any good.

    [NOTE: For those who are allergic to the words sales and marketing, I know how you feel. I was a computer technician at IBM who tried to fulfill the {sometimes unreasonable} promises made by marketing. If you wish to be successful - even non-monetarily - unless you're a total hermit you'll have to involve others and that simple involvement = selling yourself. So if you're "allergic" to the concept you may want to decide to get over that now.]

    Excerpts from the page:

    "Sometimes there's a topic out there in blog land that I KNOW everyone will miss unless I aska few people to Sphinn it. It's funny...usually after asking a few friends to consider a Sphinn story the post ends up getting 45-50 votes. In several cases the post would have been dead in the water without a little work on behalf of the content...which is the INTENT of the promotion. Who cares about utopian socialistic mob concepts if everyone is dead and nobody has any fun or interacts. It is the CONTENT excellent Sphinners promote-not themselves..."

    "Too Much Noise to Be a Flippn' Philanthropist
    Like everywhere on the Internet there is a growing crap-pile of NOISE on Sphinn. 100 posts a day to wade through and give "give a chance" to new writers is a tall order some days..."

    "Just Make Sure the Content You Bring is Awesome.
    Usually when friends show up to promote their content and ask for Sphinns, Stumbles, and Diggs, it's because they know what I'm interested in and I'm grateful. It's also rare that someone is overly aggressive when first contacting me. If they are rude I "correct" them.

    When a story rolls in that is wonderful (and yes I peruse every one of them) I actually LOOK for that writer in the future by avatar. More than half the time when I GET asked for a Sphinn, I've already Sphunn it. 80% of the time when I ASK a friend to "consider content for Sphinning" THEY have already Sphunn it. I contact them anyway because I know who likes what and I subscribe to the basic premise of Sphinn and every social site in the world: We bring value to the group. We make phriends."
