Wow Andy. I am so glad to have you as my friend. Everyone has GOT to READ THIS. And subscribe to Wendy's blog while you're there so you don't miss future installments of her wisdom. It is stupendous!

From the page: "I feel a little bad that I let Google rent so much headspace in the last few days that I posted my first ever mad rant today. I wrote it on Saturday and even let it sit for a while before hitting publish in the hopes I could tone my anger down... I failed. ;)

Which brings up an issue that definitely can affect productivity - what do you do when you are having a really bad day? How do you turn things around when you are having a really hard time getting your game face on?

Like today. No game face here.

Well, what I really need to be doing is 1 :: asking myself better questions, and 2 :: focusing on what will move me forward rather than what's holding me back.

So I will do that today as part of Monday Motivation.

Old question :: How can I get Google back?

New question :: How can I diversify my own traffic sources to lower Google's percentage of referral traffic from 28% down to less than 10%?"

This Search Analytics site is an excellent example of the old paradigm that is on the way out. Everything is cast as a win/lose game of rivals, enemies, competitors, and often ample war references.

The new paradigm is win/win where everyone is a collaborator and we focus on improving OURSELVES and what WE are doing instead.

This is wonderful because the ONLY person you can truly control - once you learn how - IS YOU! To paraphrase Wayne Dyer, if you believe everyone ELSE is the problem you have to get the entire population to go to a psychiatrist for YOU to get better!

That is not necessary. Simply change yourself and your entire world changes with you.

From the page: "Use our new Search Analytics to:

    * Discover new keywords you should be bidding on
    * Find the gaps in competitors' search strategies
    * Invest in terms that drive the most engaged visitors
    * Track your performance against competitors and peers"

From the page: "Today, Google formally announced the release of Google Android, an interface that will be completely open source in almost every way imaginable. Cellphones have always been hindered to a degree by their closed interfaces (see the iPhone's war against the hackers), which was a calculated move by the designers and carriers to ensure that top dollar had to be paid for exclusive, cutting edge designs. Even where technology of cellphones far outpaced what we are used to in the states in countries such as Japan and Korea, for example "the ability to improve the device you've been using to call your friends, take pictures, browse the web and listen to music remained elusive."

You've heard that taking the time to "sharpen the axe" will increase productivity? Learning how to search more effectively is well worth investing time in learning. It will greatly speed up how long it takes to find anything online. This is a site wiep recommended for learning that very important skill. wiep.stumbleupon.com [wiep.stumbleupon.com]

From the page: "Search Engines. You got to love `em! The time they save us from having to search through various books, magazines, newspapers, media guides, etc. They have blessed us with more time to be lethargic and lazy in front of our flat screen computer monitors, but that's another post all in itself.

Have you ever taken the time to think about a Search Engine's Query? Is there an easy way to monitor links to your site through these queries? How advanced can "searching" really get? Within this post I will show how Google, Yahoo and MSN have created "shortcuts" for their Search Engines."

Hmmm. Interesting find. Google recently said our belief that they charge advertisers one penny more than the next bidder was a "common misconception" (see wolf-howl.com/google/google-adwords-more-pricing-bs/ [wolf-howl.com/google/google-adwords-more-pricing-bs/] ) so perhaps this is another point we are mistaken on?

From the page: "Thursday, October 11, 2007 - Google no longer claims AdWords/AdSense doesn't influence the natural results - Was answering a question last night and went to reference a page I've pulled up many times in the past. At one point that page said:

"Will participation in AdWords or AdSense affect my listing in Google's free search results?
Google's advertising programs are independent of our search results. Search results display on the left side of our results page; ads appear on the right and in the colored box at the top.

Participation in an advertising program doesn't positively or negatively affect inclusion or ranking in the Google search results. Inclusion and ranking are free services; we don't accept payment to expedite inclusion or improve a site's ranking for particular keywords. To learn more about how Google ranks pages, please visit google.com/technology/index.html [google.com/technology/index.html] "

    Now that page says:

"We're sorry, but the information you've requested cannot be found. Please try searching or browsing the Help Center."

Here's the original page in Archive.org

Looks like the same fate for the UK help page as well.

So there you have it, participating in a Google advertising program might ( or might not;-) ) help your natural listings."

This is the very first post on a new blog I highly recommend adding to your RSS reader. The writer is one of those undiscovered brilliant people I just posted about here at SU.

Now if I can just get him or someone else to "fill in the blanks" on all these assumptions. Most users of Google Analytics do not already have those skills. There is an ENORMOUS demand for BASIC entry level how-to information.

From the page: "A couple months ago Google started to provide a report that allowed you to see actual search query information. Unfortunately, it purposefully doesn't include all the search query data that we'd like to see. Typically you'll see lots of entries that include "oeother unique queries that doesn't provide a lot of detailed information. After you're done reading, you won't have to worry about so many of those annoying entries.

This is a step by step guide that will allow you to set up filters in Google Analytics that will capture a lot of this unseen data. While it isn't 100% effective, it will provide a lot more insight into which keywords you should include as negatives in your campaigns."
