As many would suspect, my beliefs are not exactly mainstream. I question everything that most others would automatically accept. Many things we think of as "facts" are clearly not - they are socially-accepted beliefs and nothing more.
It is necessary to at least know WHY and if you think about it I bet you'll find that the more invested someone is in any particular belief, the less likely they know why they believe it.
There is always a reason WHY we do something a certain way and SOMEONE knows what it is. I have always insisted on finding that someone. The story about three generations of women cutting the end off of roasts is one example.
Here is another: in elite barns such as multiple Breeders' Cup winner Dick Mandella's barn in southern California, grooms are trained to tear the hay into little pieces. You would be amazed how many people I had to ask before I found out WHY a trainer would want their employees to take the time to do that.
I kept asking until I found someone who had the best answer. One answer was so the horse didn't spread it all over the stall and waste so much trampling and soiling it; however, the very BEST answer was to ensure that there was no glass, wire, or something else dangerous in the hay that could injure or kill a horse. (Some of these horses are worth millions but quality trainers like Dick honor each horse in their care equally irrespective of their monetary value.)
Do you encourage the people in your life - whether they be employees, family, friends, or children - to ask WHY? Do you take the time to help them understand? Do YOU insist on knowing why in your own life?
I highly recommend it - and your health is the number one place to start. This site provides simple information on the difference between alternative, complementary, and integrative medicine.
From the page: "Complementary and alternative medicine is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of conventional medicine. Conventional medicine is medicine as practiced by holders of M.D. (medical doctor) or D.O. (doctor of osteopathy) degrees and by their allied health professionals, such as physical therapists, psychologists, and registered nurses. Some health care providers practice both CAM and conventional medicine.
* Complementary medicine is used together with conventional medicine.
* Alternative medicine is used in place of conventional medicine.
Integrative medicine combines treatments from conventional medicine and CAM for which there is some high-quality evidence of safety and effectiveness. It is also called integrated medicine. An approach to medicine that combines treatments from conventional medicine and CAM for which there is some high-quality scientific evidence of safety and effectiveness..
