The Patriot Game
1979 Documentary by Arthur MacCaig.
New facts and a new perspective enlighten this now-dated documentary on the history of the conflict in Northern Ireland (1968-1980). Because director Arthur MacCaig's point of view is pro-IRA, The Patriot Game was not widely publicized or distributed in the United States. But now that the peace accords have been in effect for some time, previous biases have weakened. As the documentary notes, more than 2,000 Irish civilians and hundreds of British soldiers had died by 1980, casualties of a religious, political, and economic war that would not find an adequate truce until 1998. For anyone interested in the history of Northern Ireland, this documentary is an important source of information. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, All Movie Guide
