It was probably a once-in-a-lifetime event: last night I saw Yaz (Yazoo for you Brits) play live in the gorgeous Paramount Theatre in Oakland. This was their first tour ever, in 26 years. Alison Moyet was fabulous, bringing her rich deep voice to the soulful lyrics, and Vince Clarke was the silent master behind the computers. He'd reworked some of the backing tracks but didn't stray very far from the original sounds. The crowd was on their feet most of the night and it was simply an amazing show. I'm so glad I was able to see them perform live.
Who remembers ice cream cones from Thrifty, scooped in a cylinder just like this? Remember when a triple scoop was only like 15 cents? Mmmmm...chocolate malted crunch. Happy summer.
"Anthony tells us that he once heard a young boy ask his grandmother for advice on how to enjoy a long and happy life.
The answer? Work hard and be nice to people."
