White House Meeting Marks New Milestone for Nontheists

June 1, 2009 - The nontheist movement reached a new milestone when the Secular Coalition for America had its first individual meeting with White House officials last week. Although the Secular Coalition had met with White House officials before, this meeting was significant as it was the first private meeting focused solely on nontheists' interests.

The discussion, held with White House Associate Director of Public Engagement Paul Monteiro, gave Secular Coalition representatives the opportunity to highlight what policy issues concern nontheists most. Specifics topics addressed were coercive religious proselytizing in the military, the faith-based initiatives, and employment discrimination.

As the broadest and most diverse advocacy group for nontheists, the Secular Coalition has the credibility to provide our nation's leaders with an understanding of nontheists' political and cultural interests. More importantly, this meeting is evidence that nontheists are becoming an influential and increasingly organized constituency, and that elected officials want to take our concerns into account.

The goal of the Secular Coalition has always been to increase the visibility of and respect for nontheists in America. This meeting was one small step for the Secular Coalition, but it was a significant leap for nontheists everywhere.

Male penguins raise adopted chick

Two "gay" male penguins have hatched a chick and are now rearing it as its adoptive parents, says a German zoo.

The zoo, in Bremerhaven, northern Germany, says the adult males - Z and Vielpunkt - were given an egg which was rejected by its biological parents.
It says the couple are now happily rearing the chick, said to have reached four weeks old.
The zoo made headlines in 2005 over plans to "test" the sexual orientation of penguins with homosexual traits.

Three pairs of male penguins had been seen attempting to mate with each other and trying to hatch offspring from stones.

Goddess Easter: Celebration of the Spring Equinox

From the page:

Oestre/Easter
The name Easter derived from the Saxon Eostre (a.k.a. Eastre). The ancient Saxons in Northern Europe worshiped the Goddess Oestre at the time of the Spring Equinox. The Goddess Easter represents the sunrise, spring-time and fertility, the renewal of life.
Pagan Anglo-Saxons made offerings of colored eggs to her at the Vernal Equinox. They placed them at graves especially, probably as a charm of rebirth. (Egyptians and Greeks were also known to place eggs at gravesites).
Only later did the Christians pilfer the name for themselves and graft their religion onto a pagan celebration.

History to consider

How the Christians stole the Easter holiday
Christians celebrate the annual festival commemorating the alleged resurrection of Jesus between March 22 and April 25. For centuries, Christian "scholars" have debated the date of Jesus' crucifixion (cruci-fiction?). Not even Christians know when he died. There occurs not a fragment of evidence about a Jesus crucified on Mt. Calvary or anywhere else (much less have evidence for his existence).
The Jews celebrate "Passover" at around this time, from an Exodus story where God passes over the "chosen ones" on his way to kill the firstborn of Egypt (Exodus 11, 12).
However, people had celebrated Easter during the vernal equinox long before Judaism, Christianity and their superstitious myths.
Nothing about the Easter bunny or colored eggs derives from Christianity, nor will you find them mentioned in the Bible.
No one knows the origin of the name Easter but some suspect that it derived from Eastre, the Anglo-Saxon name of a Teutonic goddess of spring and fertility, to whom people dedicated a month corresponding to April. People celebrated her festival on the day of the vernal equinox. The tradition of Eastre survive in the Easter rabbit, a symbol of fertility, and in colored easter eggs, originally painted with bright colors to represent the sunlight of spring, and used in Easter-egg rolling contests or given as gifts. Even the early Egyptians and Persians dyed eggs in spring colors and gave them to friends.
Ancient religions commonly held such festivals including the Greek legend of the return of Persephone, daughter of Demeter, goddess of the earth, from the underworld to the light of day. Her return symbolized to the Greeks the resurrection of life in the spring after the desolation of winter.
By contrast, the Christians celebrate a tortured man dying on a piece of lumber and Jews celebrate the passover of a god on his way toward killing infants. What morbidity! Instead of celebrating death, why not opt for the original Easter and admire the coming of spring, and the renewal of life?

From the page:

"In the past, politicians in Washington and elsewhere could largely ignore the Godless. But those days are over. With their numbers growing, nonbelievers are intent on pushing a political and legislative agenda governed more by cool reason than by faith."
So concludes a cover story in the March, 2009 National Journal called "Rise of the Godless," which profiles the Secular Coalition for America, our member groups, allies and supporters. The complete article is republished on our Web site in .pdf format, with permission of National Journal.
The National Journal is widely read by members of Congress and their staffs, the White House, the media, policy makers, and political heavy hitters in Washington and around the country. This highly respected newsweekly is billed as "Insight for Insiders."

Does God Love You??

No. He does not exist. Does Mother Goose love you? Does Santa Clause Love you? Highly Improbable. If you believe these things than you have problems.

How can you explain miracles and prophecies??

They are either hoaxes or misinformation. Humans are extremely gullible to believe the supernatural, so when they find a way to make a vague prophecy seem true one after the fact.

If I believe in the bible does that make me stupid?

Depends, If you believe:

1-5% of the bible. You are misinformed. You may have a decent imagination, but, naturally misinformed since the bible has gone through several revisions, mistranslations, and massive editing. You are probably a guilt tripped theists, believing in god because you don't want to go to hell, so believing him by default is "better"
.
.
.
75-100% you are insane. I would warn the local authorities, to search your house since you are probably practicing the looney parts of the bible. Killing may be logical in normal situations for you, especially to heathens that don't believe.

Check out the page to see the rest of this amusing "tract."
