Alright evangelical and/or fundamentalist pundits* opposed to Park51, the `Ground Zero mosque,' who art thou?

Are thee the faithful, praying/hoping/waiting for the imminent return of Christ, or are thee like the believers in Ephesus who forsook their first love in the name of zealotry (Revelation 2**)?

From the page: "Last week, Abby Johnson, the director of a Texas Planned Parenthood health center that provides abortions, among its other services including birth control, annual exams and sexually transmitted infection prevention and treatment, resigned citing a "conversion" that caused her to see abortion in an entirely new light. Her resignation came just weeks after the 40 Days for Life anti-choice campaign wrapped up its annual protest in front of the clinic.

From the page: "When President Barack Obama announced the appointment of Alexia Kelley, executive director of Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good (CACG), to lead the Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), many progressive activists were alarmed. Kelley, a Catholic social justice advocate who has said that abortion is a social ill to be combated along with torture, poverty and war, is on record supporting restrictions on abortion access and has refused to challenge church doctrine prohibiting abortion and birth control. Arri Eisen is a professor at Emery University who has traveled to Dharamsala, India, to teach science to Tibetan Buddhist monks. He writes about his experiences at Religion Dispatches. In "Teaching the Dalai Lama's Monks: Better Religion Through Science," Eisen writes that a monk told him "I am studying modern science because I believe it can help me understand my Buddhism better." It was a statement, Eisen says, that turned his worldview on its head.

In an earlier article, "Creationism v. Integrationism," Eisen brought up the famous remark of His Holiness the Dalai Lama about science and sutras:

Rated Jun 26 2009 3 reviews politics, civil rights, gay marriage, gays, lgbt killingthebuddha.com

From the page: "Those who declare â€oeGay is the New Black” have outraged intellectuals, religious leaders, and politicians inside the black community. They have outraged, for instance, Rev. Irene Monroe, who identifies three cardinal sins of whiteness plaguing the gay-marriage movement: 1) exploiting black suffering and experiences to legitimate its own; 2) rallying against heterosexist oppression while remaining silent on its own white-skin privilege; 3) appropriating the content of the black civil rights movement but discarding the historical context. Rev. Monroe is right. If there is to be a black-and-gay coalition, it will have to listen to her."

As a vocal feminist, my opinions are often antagonistically questioned at parties and backyard barbecues. What is it about wanting to support women and women's rights that makes others, especially men, so uncomfortable? I find myself asking this same question in light of U.S. Supreme Court justice nominee Sonia Sotomayor's recent decision to leave a women's networking club.

The bus steamed along, periodically disgorging passengers to stumble through people's happy homes. Parents on the tour watched as children ran from unit to unit, no supervision required. Devotees of sustainability listened to tales of shared resources and reduced footprints. Those keen on intergenerational living saw residents of all ages mingling casually. For the design conscious, there was an intelligent flow that encouraged serendipitous meetings while still preserving privacy.

"For a long time we'd always be referred to as `communes for the '90s' or `the new commune,' " said Mr. Ragland of the Cohousing Association. "But increasingly people are seeing that it's really just a new type of neighborhood."

  • Is Sonia Sotomayor Gay?

Rated May 29 2009 1 review politics, supreme court, gays, lgbt newser.com

Well there, I asked the question. It might as well be asked. It is being asked. It's the question mark about every single public person without a spouse or children or a big time social life.

This is partly for a very good reason: A great number of public people are gay. A great number of public people are obviously gay and for so long we've been complicit in pretending that they're not. And, indeed, it may not matter that they are. Except for the dark and dismal air of dishonesty and subterfuge--which, of course, in politics is business as usual, gay or not.
