I agree that the culture of constant testing is to the detriment of modern education.
My 11 year old is doing her year 6 SATs at the moment (for her final year at primary school). Since January they have been revising, doing practice papers, and generally preparing them for a test which is meant to cover everything they do until the end of year 6 (which isn't until July). On that basis, very little new is taught for 6 months - that is a huge chunk of valuable time. I don't mean valuable time for more cramming, but generally exploring new and exciting topics. BH has become bored with a year which has been tedious and monotonous.

Over the past 4 weeks or so, I have spotted cameras and crews dotted around Marple: Here outside an end terrace; there at the local sixth form college; and today an all day session outside the local cinema (and on the main street). The icing on the cake was seeing a large truck and trailer with film crew and car on the back - apparently this is the safe way to record driving scenes.
Asking around, I have discovered that there is filming for a 3 part series to be shown in the Autumn. A bit more digging, and I discover it is something written by Craig Cash (who lives locally), and starring Steve Coogan.
Googling reveals this BBC press release. What I've seen is the bit referred to at the end: "filming near Stockport"
Look forward to seeing this on TV.
