I'm a pianist/piano teacher. Find classical (sheet) music, Linux, paintings, a.o. Use the tags with many subcategories, especially for music and Linux. I have an obsession for the best and most passioned musicians in all kinds of styles and periods, from classical to modern music. I don't like nihilism, anarchism and existentionalism. I think life has a (spiritual) purpose, and sharing opinions, reviews and thoughts on SU is one of them. How could anybody exist without having *any* opinion or idea on *anything*?
Simon Barere plays Glazunov and Blumenfeld Etudes.
The first pyrotechnical Etude by Glazunov can be skipped and you can go immediately to the Blumenfeld Etude in A-flat major, Op. 36 (minute 2:45), one of the best piano pieces for the left hand piano repertoire. Simon Barere gives a highly poetic performance and compared to other pianists he does not fall in te trap to play too fast or play the accompaniment too loud. The accompaniment is always subdued and floatingly melancholical and the melody stands out without sounding heavy. Because of this one tends to forget it was only written for the left hand...
Valentina Toth in the National Final of the Princess Christina Contest on Sunday April 19, 2009 in The Hague. 1. E. Grieg - Lyrical Pieces Op. 43 nr. 6, An den Frühling.
2. F. Chopin - Fantasie-Impromptu op. 66
First Price in Category No. 1 (12th till 14th year).
Wonderful piano playing of Valentina Toth, one of the greatest piano talents in the Netherlands.
To me, her Chopin comes close to the poetry of Rubinstein and Kissin, and her Grieg to Gilels (that would be a 10+ in my CD collection...).
I had the honour to give her about 10-15 piano lessons, offcourse it was a great joy to give the most precious of what my teachers gave to me to Valentina. Last year she won 2nd price in the final of the Steinway Youth Contest in the small hall of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Allthough I am far from beeing her regular teacher (she has 3 teachers in the province of Friesland), it is wonderful to have been part of her musical achievement, and in that sence I can honestly say that I am very proud of her.
AVRO Edison Classic Gala 2009 (June, 11)
As a kind of tribute Valentina Toth plays for Menahem Pressler.
In April 2009 Valentina won the first prize at the Princess Christina Contest.
I bought an excellent Acer Aspire 6930ZG with a Nvidia video card with 512Mb dedicated(!) memory, 4Gb(!) of RAM, Intel dual core and 500Gb HD. I really tried hard not to dislike Vista, but it was sooo slow! First I put off all the bling bling (choosing best performance, not nicest graphics), that helped quite a bit. But still slide shows like flickriver.com where very unstable and flickery because the pictures loaded really slow (no, not because of a slow connection, my connection is broadband), when the pictures entered my screen at the bottom they looked all watery and distorted. Hmm...isn't window$ the allmighty and best graphical OS...??? Nope. Not anymore in my book...
I didn' t like the way I could hardly find my download location D\Data, not user friendly at all. The overall feeling was that I didn't own my computer anymore, unlike I did for 3 years now with SimplyMEPIS Linux, which is simplicity personified. The same evening I ditched Vista and installed Linux Mint, which is Ubuntu based, and now my laptop flies, slide show pictures no problem, Compiz Fusion (Linux bling bling: rotating desktop cube and wobbly windows) flies, no system resources or video card problems whatsoever and installing the nVidia driver was a breeze. Without having to install from a CD that is...
