BBC NEWS | UK | Memorial for dead RNLI rescuers

A minute's silence was held today at 12:20pm while at the RNLI HQ at Poole, Dorset the Duke of Kent acting as the RNLI president unveiled a sculpture designed by Sam Holland to commemorate those crew members who had given their lives whilst trying to save others.
RNLI stations around the UK and Ireland flew the RNLI flags at half-mast. The plinth of the sculpture carries the names of 778 crew members who have paid the ultimate sacrifice; along with the family motto of the RNLI's founder, Sir William Hillary: "With courage, nothing is impossible." -

RLNI Penlee Lifeboat Disaster 1981 Tribute

A video tribute to the crew of the 1981 Penlee lifeboat disaster which saw the loss of the Solomon Browne and her entire crew.
An apt video on the day to remember all those who have given their lives to the sea. These eight crew members are probably the most famous in the public consciousness to have perished whilst carrying out their duties of saving lives at sea.

Just to let all my SU friends and followers know that I've reached a decision about this blog. For a long while now I've been busy doing other things and this blog has dwindled to a halt.
I only joined SU thanks to reading a press interview with the photographer Charlie Waite who mentioned that he was a stumbler and liked to look at the websites of new up and coming photographers.
That sounded great, being able to visit the websites of photographers I had never even heard of without the hell of spam. Unfortunately spam has found its way onto SU and my blog has meandered into lots of other areas.
I don't want to give up on SU or my blog so, change is on the way. This blog is bloated and boring. Even I admit I'm bored by it! I shall be trimming this blog down to size and returning to my original intentions. I shall be cutting a lot of my 'wordy' posts including this one! Photography/art and music combined with a maritime/RNLI theme shall be the heart of this blog but I shall keep the majority of reviews on active stumblers.
I shall in no way feel any personal affront if those subscribers wish to unsubscribe from my future blog. I just want to say thanks to all those who have passed through and given my blog a thumbs-up. Normal service shall be resumed in the coming weeks. -

Well an art installation is certainly one way of dealing with a "ghost" at the Talacre lighthouse.
