Well-written, insightful and personal look at the effects that the stigma of mental illness has on an individual's life.
Best summary of what the real issues are. Pay attention and don't let the far-right continue to hijack the country. It's too critical. Stand with Wisconsin and fight!
What a bunch of WHINY self-centered mothers. I had a child because I felt I had love to give as a mother. Not because I wanted to give her a ton of rules and wanted to give her chores and restrictions and was going to bitch about *gasp* not having enough freaking ME TIME. I want to be with my child. And she's a teenager. I genuinely enjoy being with her and, yes, she enjoys being with me too. We have a good relationship. Sure, she wants time with friends and by herself too - it's normal. But I don't give her tons of rules and restrictions and some long list of arbitrary chores so our house can appear perfect. That way, when I ask her to do something, she happily does it because I haven't forced all this crap on her. Authoritarian parenting is so damaging to the relationship and I put THAT, the relationship between my daughter and me, FIRST above my alone time any day. And CERTAINLY above any stupid household chores. If you're so stressed over the garbage or the dishes, maybe relaxing on those expectations and just enjoying being with your kids is the answer, MOM...
Wonderful examination of the different styles of intelligences from the view of an unschooling parent and how these are affected by both unschooling and by the school system. So happy to have chosen to free my daughter from the school system so that she can embrace learning rather than one-way education. While I applaud the work of teachers, I feel that the educational system as designed is so flawed and does not encourage free thought and critical thinking. And it does indeed ignore many of these intelligences spoken of in the article.
I expected more. He spoke of no understanding of any of the world's other religions, and it was very black and white approach as well. Either it's atheism or Christianity. And all but Christianity came off as wrong in this piece. So he exuded judgment of all others which is a huge stumbling block for me and for many others. This is why so many people turn away from the churches to begin with. Acceptance of all religions and paths is critical for me.
Wow...a book with EVERY word cut out? Don't know if I approve of book dissection, but I love the artistic quality to the piece!
Do the right thing, Obama...do NOT appeal. Let this hideous law die!
Is your child learning IN school? Mine wasn't...she wasn't being taught anymore. I don't blame the teachers though....I blame the system. I took her out. I'm teaching her now. It's better for HER and I'm not a religious fundamental either. ;) While I don't unschool, I am an eclectic homeschooler that leans towards child-led learning when possible for us.
From the page: "To show the scale of the problem, an Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) report said that if the costs of caring for an estimated 35.6 million people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias were seen as a country, it would be the world's 18th largest economy, ranking between Turkey and Indonesia."
The time for the U.S. to act has really passed but let's not look back, let's move in this and DO something. It's only going to get worse. This problem is growing. No thinking person BELIEVES in death panels so FUND care for dementia and other age-related disorders...it's simple. Don't resist just because England and France did it. They do a lot of the right things by their citizens.
I'm such a romantic. ;)
Sums up the way I feel about it perfectly.
some of the most INSANE and scary looking roads ever! I got dizzy just looking at some of them. That tunnel thing is off the charts unthinkable. I wouldn't ride a donkey through that much less take a car through it. o_o
Refreshing views from Orrin Hatch. Way to go, Senator...I wish other Republicans would listen to you in this regard.
