When I was young and my family would hop into our '51 Ford for a roadtrip, I would squeeze into the back seat with my 2 older brothers armed with our comics and we would trade and bicker and carry on and then every once in awhile my mother would reach around through the cigarette haze and backhand all 3 of us at once. Since then I'm proud to have seen and been through many changes, some of which are reflected here in my pages. Many of my beliefs are contrary to those of my cherished friends and so I say that they are just this, my opinions which are given in the spirit of openness, rather than to in any way alienate those who would come here. Lastly, if you don't click on everything you see, you're missing out on the best part, so try to slow down and enjoy. Blow up the screen, crank up the volume and welcome to my world :-)

Calvin Borel rides Mine That Bird to win 2009 Kentucky Derby

Good race today, video on link. Jockey Calvin Borel and trainer Bennie Woolley Jr towed their $9,500 yearling, Mine that Bird, in a pickup from Santa Fe, Woolley on Crutches from a motorcycle accident, 12 broken bones in his ankle. 
Borel looked like the kind of guy who forgot to put in his teeth, just off the just off the turnip truck . . but barn smarts count here and he knows exactly how much to expect from a horse and when to apply the spurs. He made it look simple when he took the lead along the inside and won by an astounding 7 lengths, you'll have to watch the flick . . . but after the race, he graciously said that his boss taught him the riding part of it. His uninhibited joy at winning this 50-1 long shot was dampened only once, when he lamented that his parents had died before they saw him make good . . . sniff, well he won last year too, so I expect they had an inkling that something was in the wind

Curious Designs - World Digital Library

Was browsing Digital library, which finally opened . . . just starting to mention this fine site when I learned that Russ Dove alias chesapeakeman , had died suddenly. Major shock. Difficult to use past tense in referring to him even though as I write, it's now been a week . . . Russ left many friends, not to mention the women in his life . . his mother 98, is aunt, 102, and 2 daughters . . . many many stumble pals . . . A large portion of my stumbles were from him and although I've never met a single stumbler in person, I felt that I knew Russ very well. Aside from having an imaginative dry wit, he was a hard worker and a man of high integrity. He was also wonderfully gentle with his grandchildren, who he loved very much. I do hope they keep his trains up and leave his blog intact as a memorial for them and my deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. More about Digital Library another time, below are some photos, which along with their links, I took from Russ's blog . . . RIP my pal, I will miss you every time I hit the stumble button
