I feel sorry for our President. He is a good cerebral person but he has got his plate full.
The current economic problem, inclusive joblessness, housing market has been bad enough but he has two more issues which are also very problematic. Universal health care and Afghanistan.
There is no doubt in my mind some form of health care reform is necessary. Our problem had been rooted to some extent in corporate greed. Our system is for profit. And two major players are health Insurance companies and Drug manufacturers. People who are working might be covered by the company sponsored system which may not be adequate.
But if you lose your job you may be in big problem.
Also the Young adults who can't be covered by their parents Insurance many time can't afford the premium. So the individual who has to buy coverage would find the cost prohibitive. Heaven helps you if you have high blood pressure, take cholesterol lowering drugs yous premium is going to go through the ceiling. Then if you have any preexisting condition you would not be able to buy any coverage. So many people go bare and would use the Emergency rooms as their medical needs. As they are non paying the hospital & providers would pass the cost to the paying people by raising rates. So it becomes a vicious cycle.
Drug manufacturers are in a different zone. The same drugs which would cost $ 40.00 south of the border would cost about $200.00 or more.
I understand many major pharmaceutical companies are paying the generic drug manufacturers to slow down productions. So. some thing need to be done.
Afghanistan is a very different problem. I have no doubt the Al-Qaida is evil organisation. They are the sworn enemy of USA and always try to do us harm and they should be eradicated. But it it is a very difficult problem. As some the Talibans are allied with them. But as I understand the Talibans does not have the international agenda like the al-qaida. I am pretty sure we can never implement a western type democracy here. Could it be our exit strategy is to separate these two elements and bring the so called moderates in our wing.
Alternate is the cost of the war which is going to continue to drag our economy down as also the loss of lives of brave young men & women.
Already the politicians are talking about war surtax and all of us will see increase of taxation. I hope and pray that our President receive the correct advise and guide the country in proper direction. We certainly would like defeat the bad guys but don't want a second Vietnam.
