The First Saturday in May

"The First Saturday in May"
The most exciting two minutes in sports

A new movie about The Kentucky Derby. Get an inside look at how the racehorses get to "the run for the roses" and the people who're along for the ride. (As an aside, I attended my first Kentucky Derby a few weeks before I was two years old...hat n'all ;))
"From sire to sire
It's born in the blood
The fire of a mare
And the strength of a stud
It's breeding and it's training
And it's something unknown
That drives you and carries
You home.
And it's run for the roses
As fast as you can
Your fate is delivered
Your moment's at hand
It's the chance of a lifetime
In a lifetime of chance
And it's high time you joined
In the dance"

And the Oscar goes to...
Best Actress...Reese Witherspoon, for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line".
Diamondz Reflects:
In the early 90's, my brother and I met June and Johnny on a flight from Nashville to Chicago. We were passing time in a snack bar before our departure, when my brother said "Look, June and Johnny just walked in..whatcha wanna bet they'll be on our flight?" Sure enough, when we boarded, there they sat..in the row directly in front of us. (Since our family owned a travel agency, we were customarily upgraded to First Class whenever possible...so No, the Cash's weren't traveling in coach ;)) However, the days of that airline courtesy to "travel partners" have been curtailed to a major extent since 9-11...gone with the wind, if you will?!)
We struck up an inflight conversation with them and found out they were enroute to Chicago that day, for a Dr's consultation. Johnny looked terribly grey and ashen, his deeply lined and pitted face, a living roadmap of his life. (Bless his heart, I doubt he ever saw a day when even his bottom was as smooth as Joachim Phoenix's face) They were both tremendously gracious. I was struck most by how much more delicate and lovely that June was in person. I was fascinated with how long and glossy her hair was for a woman of her age(dull magazines..had the opportunity to study the back of her head alot?)

Elizabethtown Official Movie Site - Directed by Cameron...
Rated • 4 reviews • movies • elizabethtown.com
"After causing the Oregon shoe company he works for to lose hundreds of millions of dollars, Drew Baylor is fired for his mistake, and promptly also dumped by his girlfriend, Ellen. On the verge of suicide, Drew is oddly given a new purpose in life when he is brought back to his family's small Kentucky hometown of Elizabethtown following the death of his father, Mitch, as it falls to him to make sure that his dying wishes are fulfilled. On the way home, Drew meets a flight attendant, Claire Colburn, with whom he falls in love, in a romance that helps his life get back on track"
"Elizabethtown" will be released this week-end. If you're a Kentuckian like me, you refer to the city as E-Town. Whenever I drive to Louisville, I always stop at Elizabethtown on the way. (In fact, the first guy I dated lives there...heh, NOT the reason I make the stop, tho) Lucky E-Town to have Britty-cutie Orlando Bloom filming there for several months ;)
