This is not a theory that helps scientists to do science. Whereas the ideas that spring from evolution make useful predictions, the ideas that spring from design do not. As such, they are interesting philosophical ideas maybe but that is all. The spirit of their proponents remains similar to the born-again who tells me that where there is a building there is a builder, as though I don't know that, as though it is fair to compare a cheap motel to the universe. I am left feeling as though it is the man who makes such an argument who has really missed the grandeur of the world.
At the same time as I'm not convinced that ID should be taught in biology classes, I'm not convinced it is a terrible argument in all its respects either. For anyone holding dualist metaphysical beliefs, an argument for design is attractive. But until it can be formulated to make testable (and correct) predictions, it has little meaning and no place in a science class.
