Jun 8, 8:12am (1 review) cooking http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1...- Although I feel that people should take responsibility for their own actions, I think the food industry should be liable for creating a "constructive nuisance". Nobody that spends $33 BILLION a year on marketing and promotion is out to help people. They should be required to place warnings on their menus just like cigarettes and booze have had for many years: "Warning - Eating all this crap will make you FAT!" I find it pretty amazing when I compare serving sizes from fifty years ago to those today. Some of the "super value meals" they sell today would have fed a family of five in 1950.

Personally, I think the proper response to most of the "interviewing" techniques described is a swift kick in the balls and an abrupt departure.

Apr 20, 7:28am (1 review) science, space-shuttle, ready-for-launch http://mediaarchive.ksc.nasa.gov/detail....- Endeavor is ready to launch to rescue the crew of Atlantis in the event that Atlantis is damaged by debris while servicing the Hubble Space Telescope. This picture makes me kind of sad; when I was growing up, the shuttle was supposed to revolutionize space flight, making it almost a non-event. While the shuttle program certainly brought a lot of benefits to the space program, technical snags, reductions in funding, and overly-cautious management at NASA slowed the growth of the program, preventing it from reaching its full potential. At one time, nothing would have made me happier than to see a whole field of these magnificent machines ready to expand man's presence in space. This photo, showing two of the last remaining shuttles (which are scheduled to be taken out of service and placed in museums within the next couple of years) makes me sad for what could have been. Sure, they're developing the Constellation vehicles as a "replacement", but that takes us back to totally disposable spacecraft, ala the Apollo days. It seems like such a waste...

At one point in the film (some clips are available on YouTube) he hosts a dinner for 12 other "Alan Berliners" from around the world. It's a pretty entertaining and thought-provoking film.

This video is a fairly informal tour of the ISS, given by one of the residents with a hand-held camcorder. More than anything else I've read or seen, it gives a good feel for just how big and complex the space station really is, and what it's like to live aboard it.
Okay - for some reason I can't link directly to the video in question, so here's the direct link:

Mar 26, 7:30pm (1 review) science, earth-pictures, moon-pictures, early-lunar-images, restored-nasa-tapes http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/...- This is pretty wild. They dug up some of the old data tapes recorded from lunar orbiters in the 1960's, before Apollo, and were able to find and repair some ancient tape drives and decode the data. Photos of the Earth from the moon, and photos of the moon itself, in high resolution, from almost 50 years ago.
