Jun 28, 8:51am (3 reviews) music http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/jun...- From the page: "It's all very well for Madonna to be cranking out tour after tour. As she could neither dance nor sing at 25 no one is going to mind that she still can't do it at 50. " Oh, snap! not fair, she can carry a tune sorta.
MJ's life embodies the concept of an icon destroyed by the very people who love him - his fans. He was destroyed because of their insatiable need to have him infuse every aspect of their lives, to feed them, make them happy, nourish them, provide them with .... life.
He could never do it and neither can anybody else.
He said that being mobbed "hurts" and it made him feel as fragile as spaghetti. They loved him so much that they forgot all about him, about how it would feel to be in the middle of that. It's a sort of insanity that grips "fans" when they are in the throes of idolatry - they forget about everything in those moments, except what they think they NEED from the beleaguered human being who feeds them false Divinity.
Why do we do this to people, again and again? Why do we assign so much responsibility for our lives, to others? Must be emptiness and a lack of The Divine in our lives. We look for "magic" from creatures like Jackson, when really the magic was and is always within ourselves, to tap into as we please. If only we all knew this, then we could have celebrated alongside Michael rather than needing to gobble him up.
