No Apologies this "From the page:" is the whole post, but I want it here. I want it on my blog. I want you to read it.
And I'm going to add emphasis.
From the page: Thought a couple of things were quite interesting in this interview.
SU is of course, the best ( and really only) discovery engine on the market. Good for you.
15 million users. 4 million ACTIVE users. The data mining..the content, the discovery comes from these active users.
Now you all know I am not great with numbers ;-) But in MY stumbleworld...amongst the people that I knew, the active stumblers, the discoverers, the pioneers of Stumbleupon..well, they are leaving. They are losing heart.
Charles says "I'm not the earliest number, but I am pretty early to the SU party. I've lost heart."
It's ironic that as you increase the "social" features of SU..you mentioned integration with Facebook and twitter...it seems to me that you have fragmented the core community that I knew.
You see, in a community, people get to know each other. And, we got to know each other through..our blogs. I know you hate blogging here..but it was a way for people to express themselves...it kept them engaged in the community, it kept them here, and stumbling. It was their complete online experience.
Charles says "Sure SU was my one stop - stop, my goto place on the net, where I began and ended my day, most days. Now it's an occasional thing, often just to see who has spammed my inbox with a please subscribe to me PM."
There were characters, there were really interesting people, there were local experts, there were poets and writers and artists and scientists..the whole gamut of human experience....and you could learn about people because they were able to express themselves on their blogs. Nowadays, I can glean what people are about by seeing their tags, or seeing their favourites, but I miss those days when peoples blogs declared who they are.
I can't understand why you have chosen to make blogging so hard. You don't host anything. Photoblogging is hotlinking. Images have to be hosted on photobucket or other services.
I don't understand why SU chooses to be less than it can ( and used ) to be.
But that's just me.
And most I know.
And all the departed.
Charles says "I'm mainly found on Tumblr."
