Well,
It's been months since the news and our faces are STILL red with the handprint from being so brazenly bitch-slapped. (Though in a way, we KNEW this day was inevitable, given what little interest SU has in their userbase's opinion/feedback). So it begins...the downfall. As a persistent user of Stumbleupon for over five years, I'm finally throwin' in the towel. No HTML markup/photoblogging/CREATIVITY = Site Suicide. You guys might think you're using up your resources by including HTML/photoblogging when you could be using those
resources on improving discoveries and recommendations (sidenote: Seriously? Just how limited are your "resources"?), but you're really getting rid of an integral part of what makes Stumbleupon the best discovery engine out there...OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS.
The majority of my shares either come from other stumbler's pages, other stumbler's recommendations, or voicing in on another stumbler's viewpoints. Contrasting opinions on a regional, national and international scale help make this site WHAT IT IS. Recommendations based solely on a little green/red thumb are DOOMED to fail. (..and what's the point in reviewing anything anymore if nobody's gonna read it...and verse vice-uh?) Stumbleupon was the ONLY place on the web where I would explicitly use the fucktarded word "BLOG" and not *cringe*, because "Stumbleblogs" *were* in a league of their own. They weren't online diaries to bitch and complain about your personal problems that nobody wanted to hear about (well, perhaps a FEW were)...but most were insightful, thorough and PERSONAL analyses and opinions on ANYTHING and EVERYTHING.
Sure, every once in a while, I'd come across a Stumbler's page that looked like HTML hell. Picture "middle schooler Myspace pages" with "glitter GIFS" everywhere. But you know what? Those were few and far between. Most people who put in the effort to make their SU page 'welcoming' also managed to keep their HTML well-structured. But THIS? Black text on a white background? Is this NOTEPAD? How many personal blogs/sites do you see using the 'visual equivalent of taking Ambien'? Well, thanks to Stumbleupon's removal of color themes and HTML, you've now got MILLIONS in a matter of ONE DAY!
I've seen websites come and go THROUGH stumbleupon. I've seen small intriguing startups turn into corporate shill-machines, and in the ultimate bout of downfallin', Stumbleupon is gradually slipping down to become a "shell of what once was". The days of going out of my way to find the original source to give a thumbs up? The days of searching to find the faster-loading, higher-quality alternative Youtube video? Fixing incorrect tags? Reporting spammers? Yeah, I'm done with that. I tried to do my part to make this one of the more sustainable communities on the web, despite the higher-ups at SU not giving a shit about any of it.
Buuut I'll continue clicking that damn addictive "SU" button until its little blue/green light burns out, or until my stumbles start becoming irrelevant (and really, without personalization, you're really no different from Reddit or De.licious anymore...In your sudden focus on being a better "discovery engine", you've become blind to the overall picture). So in conjunction with my Tumblr site, (which so far has only been used for my 8tracks mixes) I'll keep this up 'til Stumbleupon hits 'rock bottom'. Granted, I'll probably have less opinions on EVERYTHING, and stick more with photos and only noteworthy sites. Fortunately, Tumblr already has an extensive and diverse userbase, in addition to the thousands of Stumblers making the pilgrimage there...Y'know, Stumbleupon may have become something larger and more complex than they had imagined, but unfortunately, their idea of progress and development is laughably self-destructive, yet emotionally somber at the same time.
(sigh)...Well, despite all that, I suppose I still gotta say thanks Stumbleupon. Thanks for showing me information so diverse, I never would've discovered it all on my own. Thanks for the inspiring my creativity in several mediums of art and design...Thanks for showing me such contrasting opinions and unique viewpoints on such a BROAD variety of subjects. My levels of experience, ignorance, tolerance and patience have all been changed...and as with any relationship, learning from another person inevitably causes both to grow as people, so the most thanks goes to the Stumbleupon community itself. Thanks y'all...we had a good run.
To see more of the collective opinion of the community, turn no further than SU's joke-of-a-"support"-page:

and, of course, the reviews of SU's FAQ on the changes:

Peace
Oh, and here's my new "home on the web"...
Adios, Stumbleupon...
yeah bullshit...
ahahaha, go ahead Hammer....lose MORE money
It bothers me that I'm just NOW coming across all of these excellent Stumblers that have been around for YEARS....RIGHT before the SU community goes to crap. For someone who's not into politics, I'm glad someone out there is callin' out all these people on their bullshit. Keep it up!

WHITE POWER! HOT SHOWER! MINORITIES COWER!
nahh, white people are cool...
"african-american" tag....whaa?
I've been trying to avoid photoblogging / 'doin' my usual HTML markup' for weeks now. Not easy when you've been doing it for over FIVE YEARS. Yeah...I share your pain. I also happen to share similar interests so HEY! *click*....Followed!
A multi-spectral look at our closest galactic neighbor. Also, the comments hinted that the music sucked, so I tapped mute and hit play in Spotify. All The News Is Bad Again by Blue Sky Black Death seems quite fitting. Youtube it or somethin.
comprehensive build walkthrough and very detailed and well-planned redesign...this is sick.
