"Created with the look and feel of the Favela, Bossa Nova brings the flavor of Rio's Streets to San Francisco. The Favela (Rio's vibrant ghetto culture)"

Hn. "Vibrant guetto culture"? At the favela? Where the police kill people every day? Where most inhabitants live piled up in shacks, with all kinds of economic difficulties, no rights to decent education, hospitals, etc?

Sorry. There's no glamour in poverty. Don't even try.

Brilliant video about ayahuasca. A Briton travels to the Amazon region to find the ultimate experience with the brew. He goes deeper and deeper into the forst and into his own self, and comes out of it completely transformed.

From the page: "Terence McKenna once pointed out that virtually all useful research on psychotropics is carried out illegally and is often largely funded from underground. Legalization would make possible a much tighter control from above over all drug research. The valuable contributions of the entheogenic underground would probably diminish or cease altogether. Terence suggested that we stop wasting time and energy petitioning the authorities for permission to do what weâ€re doing, and simply get on with it."

I had the impression Richard Dawkins was a bit arrogant. Now I'm sure he's an arrogant... bastard. Defending James Watson is the apex of opportunism. His words: "'What is ethically wrong is the hounding, by what can only be described as an illiberal and intolerant "thought police", of one of the most distinguished scientists of our time, out of the Science Museum, and maybe out of the laboratory that he has devoted much of his life to, building up a world-class reputation,'"

So racist remarks are okay if they're made by a groundbreaking world-class reputation scientist? Right.
Crazy Filipino Thriller Video is Actually Even Crazier. | beyondmadisonavenue...

There *was* something wrong on that video.

"Is that whole Filipino prisoner "Thriller" dance routine as funny if you knew the prisoners were forced, sometimes brutally, to
get their groove on?

As NewTeeVee reports, that's exactly what's happening. The CPDRC video is a creation of Byron Garcia, a security consultant with the Filipino prison system, not to mention the brother of the governor and son of a senator of the Philippine government.

A couple choice quotes...

"A segment on a leading Filipino television network
shows the organized dance routines as a powerfully positive force in the rehabilitation process. However, the video, with it's semi-coherent subtitles,
raises some suspicions.

The narrator explains: "The main reason why this gimmick was created was Byron's love of music, that's why last year he thought of having these people dance. At first, it was really hard to make them
dance." Mr. Garcia elaborates: "These prisoners were all hard-headed. So, well we, we, did some, ya know, uh, some disciplinary measures.""
