10. Routinely imagine yourself a flowering plant: unique, a bright spot in the communal garden, hearty yet fragile, surrounded by other plantlife in a delicately balanced ecosystem. Are you getting enough sun to turn toward it naturally and gratefully? Is there clean water to cleanse you and keep you from withering? Is your soil aerated so as not to rot from stagnation? Are the predictably encroaching weeds being tended to allow you space and upward growth? When your blossoming requires greater freedom of movement, are you able to be transplanted before your roots become coiled and tangled beneath you?
And will this be done gently, and in a timely fashion, so as to avoid shocking the system and stunting potential growth? Does litter blow across your soil from careless passers-by, unimpeded by the dilapidated fencing? Do you regularly dust off the sign that asks people not to trample, pick, or urinate on the flowers? Tend your own garden, offer to share your gardening advice, but don't expect anyone to take it. And don't feel sorry for them when their tomatoes are small and shriveled, and full of worms.

There are so many interesting things here. And I especially like Victor's quote: "Generosity is the middle ground between selfishness and selflessness."
