From the page: The fiend to the right is not Grigori Rasputin but Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the UN's infamously bogus Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He is enough of a scoundrel to have shared the Goracle's Nobel Peace Prize for the IPCC's efforts to plunge the world into a long-term depression for the sake of global socialism behind a thin smokescreen of concern for the polar bears.

The Goracle himself, scientifically incompetent point man for the most massive hoax in the history of science, needs no introduction.

The global warming swindle means extravagant riches for Gore, unprecedented power for scuttling roach-like bureaucrats like Pachauri.

We will be made to live like medieval peasants so that odious chiselers like these may live like medieval royalty.

From the page: We all know by now that most of the Spendulus has been spent to keep a key part of the Democrat base ... public employees ... from being laid off; especially educrats. The National Educrats Association... the union representing the educrats who enjoy high salaries, lush pension plans, and three months annual vacation regardless of how poorly students in the government schools perform... shovel millions of dues in the direction of Democrats each election cycle. And so they were amply rewarded under the Stimulus.

Educrats in the Columbus Ohio public schools are spending $1.4 million in Stimulus money to rent upscale conference facilities for a series of "workshops" that they will attend during the school year (i.e. kids are out of school, not learning, while the educrats attend mostly useless workshops).

The district will pay up to $8,000 to rent Villa Milano, a marble-clad banquet hall with enough "classic elegance" that "you will think you have been transported to a romantic Italian Villa," according to the hall's Web site.
Other sites include: the Hyatt Regency ($23,000); the Greater Columbus Convention Center and the Hyatt on Capitol Square ($25,000 each); the Quest Business and Conference Center at Polaris ($17,000); and the Aladdin Temple near Easton ($12,500).

From the page: Saw this item about how Levi Johnston has become a gay icon about the same time I saw Van's Merry Hunter's post about Tiger Woods and Barack Obama, and something clicked. Both of these guys have an awful lot in common in terms of being celebrated by the progressive left, and in the reasons for which they are celebrated:

    1. Both are celebrated by the progressive left despite a conspicuous lack of real accomplishments.

    2. Barack Obama was abandoned by his father, Levi Johnston abandoned his son. It all gets back to the leftist celebration of sex as a consequence-free recreational activity: The progressive left seems to love men who ditch their kids.

    3. Barack Obama would rather shoot hoops or play golf than deal with his responsibilities. Levi Johnston would rather play hockey and pose for Playgirl than be a responsible father.

    4. Both of them were taken in by leftist radicals at a young age: Obama with Frank Marshall Davis, Bill Ayers, and Jeremiah Wright; Levi Johnston by the mainstream media and the trash of Hollywood.

    5. Both are ridiculously hyped by the mainstream media far beyond their actual merits.

    6. Addled dingbats Joy Behar and Andrew "Milky Loads" Sullivan are infatuated with both of them.

From the page: And we come to the crux of the carbon-trading scheme: the ability of politicians to pick winners and losers. In any version of this system, the government issues credits to producers based primarily on the whims of the politicians and bureaucrats in charge. Cui bono? The politicians themselves, who get the benefit of the intense lobbying that will result when they control the means and costs of energy and production. Mittal obviously did made a fortune from his investment in lobbying efforts, and so did the politicians who benefited from them.
Lest anyone think that the American system will be purer, all one needs to see is the allocation of carbon credits by state under Waxman-Markey. Politically well-connected states do much better than Midwestern and Rust Belt states, which will pay through the nose for carbon emissions. It's simply redistributionism through a particularly corrupt form of taxation and payoffs.
None of this comes as a surprise, of course. Politicians love any scheme that allows them to accrue power, and this one in particular, as the Tax Foundation explained this summer:

From the page: They called the World War II generation "The Greatest Generation." They survived the Great Depression by becoming resourceful and forging strong bonds of family and community. Thousands died fighting tyranny and securing liberty for others. Workers had no 401Ks and no paid health insurance. Citizens took pride in personal achievement, treasured their faith, families and freedom. They were good parents, balancing a healthy dose of discipline with loving support. They didn't brag about what they did; they just got busy taking responsibility for their own lives. They wanted a government that would leave them alone, not take care of their every need.

Their offspring wanted their children to want for nothing. Supported by Dr. Spock, many parents stopped the lectures and disciplined less, shielded their children from failures and poured on affirmations to boost their "fragile" self-esteem. They allowed religion to be taken out of schools. By failing to teach strong values, too many parents left their children's values development to television and Hollywood. They wanted only peace, not war. But it didn't stop there.

We continue to vote for indulgent politicians. Prior to World War II, the cost of government never exceeded a few hundred per American citizen in today's dollars. Now, government costs over $13,000 per citizen. Instead of promoting personal responsibility, freedom and free-enterprise opportunity, our "nanny-state" fosters dependence, promotes victim thinking and entitlement programs, and micro-manages every facet of our lives. Politicians, Democrats and some Republicans alike, have given us what we demanded--more spending to meet our every need!

Unfortunately, since we keep adding more entitlements and refuse to pay as we go, we leave no inheritance of opportunity, just a horrendous, out-of-control debt. Our current deficit is over $12 trillion, but that's just what politicians will admit. Former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker estimates the total "unfunded liabilities" at $56.4 trillion. That's the bill to pay off the publicly held portion of the national debt and all the benefits already promised through Social Security, Medicare and other welfare programs minus what will be collected for these programs under existing tax laws.
