Most enlightened changes and social reform never came easily nor did the vested interests running news media wish to always portray matters accurately.
The lay people, given their limited ability to express their views, seldom became involved as a result.
Actions such as this, when used prudently and wisely, have a far greater ability to focus a spotlight on matters which would otherwise be ignored. Hence my support.
As has been said many times "you can't make an omelette without cracking the odd egg"!
Climate change has been ignored for far too long and society is now on a very slippery slope.
It is time to act - both our options and time available are fast running-out!

She was beyond her depth and even when surrounded by more than a few incompetents in an administration shambles she stood-out as the performer with the least amount of grey matter!
The World has been spared a disaster on two legs!

Now it is time for the US citizens to forget petty political differences and work for the common good.
Even a great President can't achieve without support and that means more than having ticked the last electoral vote!

- Why do we allow the US to act like a failed state on climate change...
Jul 2, 3:03am (4 reviews) environment, politics, sustainability, our-future http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/ge...- President Obama, despite his earnest and enlightened efforts, is clearly shackled by a systemic failure within the US bureaucracy. It is intent on creating hurdles at every point in any bid to bring the all-important change the World needs.
Too many vested interests have the ability to pull the strings of those in power, etc.
The public may elect a President but the insidious power-brokers in the system tend never to be elected - but they hold the ability to "hog-tie" a President. As has been proved most recently in Iraq the public will sacrifice their sons into the "war machine" as Halliburton and a whole raft of Big Oil interests collect the gold.
I believe the US system, as a result, is in a terminal state, like several other leading powers and the public have to be wise enough not to be hood-winked. Obama, for example, could become the sacrificial lamb as his bureaucrats, fellow representatives and the vested interests conspire to frustrate his efforts. Then, sadly, Obama will be "hung-out-to-dry" as an expectant public sees a failure to deliver.
We have to be aware of the situation and fully support enlightened initiatives. This, irrespective of any political persuasion.
It is time for common-sense to prevail - whoever delivers it!

Jun 29, 8:12pm (10 reviews) ecology, our-future, environment, society, sustainability http://www.panda.org/?168481/Melting-Arc...- Should anyone think that a warmer climate may be "a good thing" then think again! It is a downward spiral that will affect us all ultimately.
Most countries in the World have major settlements along the coasts or on river plains and these are all at risk as is our whole way of life. Even major cities like London in the UK are having to address encroachment by the sea. Sewage systems will fail as the whole infrastructure of society as we know it fails comprehensively. We are "fiddling as Rome burns" - no one will be immune.
It is time for comprehensive changes - but even then they may come far too late.
Our past inaction is about to bite us in the backside!
Such enormity will make our current huge economic woes merely look like a kids' tea party!
Sobering huh?

Jun 28, 4:57am (2 reviews) environment http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew...- Given that the United States has been hugely responsible for the release of environmental contaminants over many years this development is not-before-time. The US citizens have been poorly led on this matter over time and the World has paid a huge price.
It is refreshing to see an enlightened President in Obama tackling such thorny issues in spite of the fact that many of his colleagues still wish to stall such initiatives.
For a nation that has the ability to put a man on the moon the United States has been surprisingly myopic in its view on a number of compelling environmental issues.
I applaud President Obama for such vision.
