What a blast from the past! I had a great time browsing through these photos of my old favourites, as well as other celebrity photos and a section on the 60s & 70s, hippie culture & peace movement that just blew me away! Worth a thorough browse!

"Global and national news, uncompromising documentaries, and diverse cultural programs, connecting you to the world ... without censorship or commercials."

I have yet to try the software that brings this channel to your PC, however, the website is full of previews, stories, and synopses that are in themselves enlightening.

This is one talented photographer whose use of the word "spirit" in the titles of some of his collections is more than appropriate; he truly captures it.

    From "Women Empowered"

"Fahima, a teacher since 1985, was one of thousands of professional women who lost their jobs when the Taliban came to power in 1996. In defiance of the Taliban andat great risk to herself, Fahima opened a clandestine school for young girls. At one point, 130 girls were coming to her home each week to study math, science, and the local language, Pushto. When the girls were asked why they were going to Fahima's house, they said she was their aunt. Although harassed by the religious police and threatened with beatings and worse, Fahima continued operating her school for girls until the fall of the Taliban in 2001."

"Nafisa was thrilled when she learned she was chosen to attend Salman-e-Fars, a new school recently opened for young girls in Kabul. Girls now make up thirty-four percent of the student population in Afghanistan--a dramatic increase since the Taliban rule, when it was essentially zero."

    From "Early Work"

    From "Spirit of Place"

"Saruul is one of the few remaining Tsaatan (reindeer people) living in the Mongolian taiga near the Siberian border. Leading a nomadic life, the Tsaatan move their camp every two to three weeks so the reindeer can have fresh moss and grass. Every night, Saruul hops on a reindeer's back and rides into the valley to help round up the rest of the herd. She started riding when she was only four. If the reindeer aren't brought back to the camp to be milked every night, they will turn completely wild within a few weeks."

I know that our forces are stretched, and I know that online petitions don't have the clout that paper petitions with verifiable signatures do; however, this by itself is better than nothing. Better yet, sign this one, and then, if you're Canadian, add to the voices by mailing or emailing your MP as well. Can we just stand by and watch this happen?

    Thanks, Bamfield
