It's true for the most part, I've never been unhappy with an iPod that I've purchased though and Apple tech support is great if you do have problems. Now that I have an iPhone I have no need to buy another iPod again though, which is great. Hearing damage can be countered by purchasing nice over-the-ear headphones to use instead of the crappy buds that iPods come with. Of course, that only contributes to the not hearing anything anyone else says problem...
