This happened in the Summer of 2005 to Ukraine...the same old tactics. Really, the Ukraine is the little brother to Russia, and should realize such! Apparently, Ukraine has not been paying for its gas and is running into the red on GAZPROM's balance sheet. Europe is getting 42% of their gas from Russia also. Russia has reassured The EU that if the Ukraine is cut off in supply, that Europe will not be affected.
My own opinion is that OPEC and Russia, have much of the world's power, de facto, in their hands. Anyway, Russia does occupy 1/6th of the earth's surface. It is a pity that during these last few years of the abillity for the Occident to get comfortable and renew its estranged relations with Russia, its media and people have expressed little interest in this fascinating country that is full of diversity and interesting things...why are Westerners only interested in learning Russian when Russia is their enemy? For the West, the West is its own worst enemy. Regarding Ukraine, the first center of the original Russia is Kiev/Kyiv...why join the EU? The members of the EU see the Ukraine as a source of great resources and cheap labor...
