Pangea Day: Pale Blue Dot

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam."

Check out this short, but incredibly beautiful video.
Phillip Toledano - Days with My Father

Incredibly heartfelt, and beautiful photo essay of one photographer's 98 year old father.

I am crying.

This is why I love photography so much - that it has the power to move us emotionally, tell us stories of the human experience, and to exhibit Life in all its intimate details. It makes us feel connected.

It also reminds us to treasure and savor every moment we spend with the people we love.

It is a story about life. Let us use this tale as a way to re-ground ourselves to the present, and to re-direct our attention to what matters most in our lives.

Elizabeth Gilbert on nurturing creativity | Video on TED.com

Incredible talk, worth 18 minutes of your time.

Elizabeth Gilbert - author of Eat, Pray Love - muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses -- and shares the radical idea that, instead of the rare person "being" a genius, all of us "have" a genius. It's a funny, personal and surprisingly moving talk.
THE AGE OF COMMODIFIED INTELLIGENCE | More Intelligent Life

Higher education and advanced degrees these days are more readily pursued as status symbols. We are not growing more intelligent, only more obsessed with its outward markers.

We've become so reliant on checklists of accomplishment that we've lost our ability to make independent judgments. We no longer pursue passions or interests without quantifiable reward.

The Single Secret to Making 2009 Your Best Year Ever | Zen Habits
Jan 6, 10:56am    (13 reviews)  self-improvement  http://zenhabits.net/2009/01/the-single-...

All you need is the present moment: spend time with a loved one, talk with a friend, watch a funny movie, go swimming in refreshing water, smell fresh baked bread, go for a walk or a run, curl up with a good book, cuddle on a rainy day, give and receive a hug.

It's true -- this is the only thing you need to know: Stop waiting for happiness. Happiness is right here, right now.

"Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.
