Glen is a guy from Washington, USA

You won't find a lot of photos, trifling posts, or silliness here...too easy. Reading and thinking are required :-)

A little or superficial knowledge of philosophy may incline the mind of man to atheism, but a further proceeding therein doth bring the mind of man back again.
-- Francis Bacon, "The Advancement of Learning"

On the road of experience, I'm trying to find my own way.
Sometimes I wish that I could fly away.
When I think that I'm moving, suddenly things stand still.
I'm afraid cause I think they always will.
And I'm looking for space
And to find out who I am
And I'm looking to know and understand
It's a sweet, sweet dream
Sometimes I'm almost there
Sometimes I fly like an eagle
And sometimes I'm deep in despair

-- Looking For Space by John Denver

From the page: "Angry politicians vowed to keep writing laws that condemn child rapists to death, despite a Supreme Court decision saying such punishment is unconstitutional."

It's good to see that there are politicians who have the moral backbone to resolve not to give in to a legally incorrect decision by 5 members of the U.S. Supreme Court led by Justice Anthony Kennedy. Kennedy, and not the prima facie liberal, activist justices, has proven to be the worst justice in recent history. His opinions are so sharply divorced from the text and meaning of the Constitution that they would be laughable if they weren't so infuriating.

In all seriousness, such a betrayal of one's oath to uphold the Constitution is grounds for impeachment. It would be healthy for our Republic if he were impeached and removed.

From the page: "Writing for the majority, Justice Antonin Scalia said an individual right to bear arms exists and is supported by "the historical narrative" both before and after the Second Amendment was adopted."

A correct decision -- which does not mean I necessarily like it (though, I do). Unfortunately, most Americans (including educated ones) think a decision is correct or constitutional if they like the outcome, or result, of the decision. One purpose of the U.S. Supreme Court is to rule in cases according to the text of the U.S. Constitution and statutory law in light of the historic collective intent of those who ratified or amended it or passed the statutory law. It is not, as some recent opinions have done (see, in particular, Justice Kennedy's decisions), to decide what are the supposed evolving mores and standards of society. That is the purposes of our federal and state republics. That is one of the primary purposes of our republican governments. Yet, Justice Anthony Kennedy believe it is his prerogative to make those decisions for the American people since he, apparently, believes that the American people don't know what their mores and standards are.

Ranging from the rare thoughtful quote to the humorous to the downright ignorant, this is a collection of, basically, atheistic and anti-religion quotes. As a theist, I disagree with many of the assertions in these quotes. However, I do find some of them interesting (and a few funny).

From the page: "South Africa is notorious for its rampant crime, with more than 50 murders per day and the highest reported rape rate in the world. Yearly crime statistics to be released next Monday will reveal whether the government has made any headway in tackling the violence which may deter many fans from the 2010 World Cup."
