Maurice Sendak tells parents worried by Wild Things to...

I have a soft spot for Sendak being so retro and so forward at the same time... I think "In the Night Kitchen" was the first hard cover (brand new) book I ever bought... oh SO many years ago... (come to think of it... too bad I threw away the dust jacket... probably would've been collectible.) I never did understand that story, just a weird dream I guess... I think kids liked it mostly because Mickey falls out of his pajamas and into the milk bottle... (which actually, made it the more controversial book.) My favorite-favorite Sendak book is "Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must be More to Life." If you want a story with a plot-line and a satisfying ending, there is your book.

John Kennedy Toole, author, "A Confederacy of Dunces."
I just finished reading this book. My daughter has read it 3 times and laughed uproariously all through it. My husband read it on vacation and could not stop laughing. I got through it... all I could think is ... I can really relate to this idiot... He breaks everything he touches...
I don't really feel quite that bad about ME, but the book brought me there... so...
TERRIBLY well written though. A pleasure to wander New Orleans of 1960 with him...
