From the page: "A Chicago woman filed a civil suit against obstetrician Scott Pierce, M.D. for his treatment of her during the birth of her daughter nine months ago. The comment sections of blogs and online publications are on fire with scathing accusations of how Catherine Skol, the plaintiff, is introducing a frivolous lawsuit and causing malpractice premiums rates to soar because, according to one commenter, â€oeShe looks fine the baby looks fine end of story.”

Defendant Scott Pierce, M.D.And that, my friends, is how we all sit back and allow the c-section and induction rates to go through the roof. A medical treatment on a pregnant woman has been performed. She is alive. The baby is alive. The family should be grateful because they could have real problems. Right?

If these allegations are true, Catherine Skol, her husband and her baby were the victims of sadistic abuse at the hands of an angry obstetrician. In this case, the public cry for Skol to â€oeget over herself” exemplifies the cultural acceptance of the misogynistic underpinnings of medicalized birth.

Before writing the case off as another person looking for a payout, read the complaint filed against Scott Pierce, who lists the following as his "Mission and Objectives" on his Web site:"

  • Woman Arrested For Breast Feeding At A Bar - Strollerderby

From the page: "Allanah Earley went to a Durham, Connecticut bar to have a couple of drinks. Nothing wrong with that, right? But the 36-year-old brought her baby. Hey, lots of us think that's fine as well. Then she started breast-feeding the baby, who is seven weeks old.

Two new acronyms have popped up as a result â€" DWB (Drinking With Baby, from NBC Connecticut) and BWI (Breastfeeding While Intoxicated, from ParentDish). BWI works better, I think. The official charge is "risk of injury to a minor", which sounds pretty, um, minor. At the moment, Earley is free on $10,000 bail.

Imperfect Parent asks, "Wonder where the breastfeeding advocates stand on this issue." Well, it's generally thought that drinking alcohol while breast-feeding is a bad idea. Especially if you literally drink alcohol WHILE YOU ARE BREAST-FEEDING. Like, have a couple of drinks, feed the kid, have another shot, and so on. That's what Allanah Earley is accused of: The Middletown Press says that when police interviewed Earley, she was visibly drunk, and admitted to officers that she'd had seven drinks. I'm guessing even the strictest La Leche Leaguer would suggest formula in that situation. "

From the page: "The United States hasn't always been the world's leading jailer, and now that we are, we aren't any safer than before.

New jails are being built in the middle of urban areas, disguised as sky-scraping office buildings while new prisons are built or expanded in rural areas. The prison boom is doom to any community plan that would embrace a sustainable future."

Interesting site, devoted to show how "warehousing" drug addicts does not help our society, but ends up hurting it in the long run.

By the 1990's, the U.S. was opening on average one new prison or jail every week. Today, the United States has the largest prison population in the world and the highest incarceration rate in the world. It took America 160 years to incarcerate its first million people, but just twelve years to incarcerate the second million. -- Justice Policy Institute

From the page: "TALLAHASSEE -- Richard Paey, a victim in the war on drugs, was granted a full, immediate and unexpected pardon by Gov. Charlie Crist and the Cabinet Thursday morning, allowing him to get out of prison and be reunited with his family later in the day.

Paey, 49, has spent the last 3 years in prison after he was convicted on drug trafficking charges in a 1997 arrest for filling out fake prescriptions and possessing about 700 Percocet narcotic painkillers.

He was to be imprisoned for 25 years.

The catch: Everyone, including judges, acknowledged the traffic accident victim was using the pills for debilitating pain. Since his incarceration, prison doctors have hooked him up to a morphine drip, which delivers more pain medication daily than he was convicted of trafficking."

Police: She Lied To Cover Up Miscarriage
McCormic Is Being Held In Jail On $500 Bond

Meagan McCormic is charged with filing a false police report after telling police her baby may have been kidnapped. Problem was, there was no baby, she lied about his existance, said police.

The search for a baby, reportedly missing since December 23rd, was called off Friday after Miami police say the whole story was fabricated by a woman who claimed to be the missing child's mother. It turns out the missing baby was never really gone, because he never really existed. "

From the page: "Grade School Break-up Ends in OC Stabbing

PLACENTIA - Authorities say a woman stabbed and wounded three people outside an Orange County childcare center.

Police Sgt. Ken Alexander says the suspected assailant, 32-year-old Diana Rodriguez, was arrested Monday.

Alexander says Rodriguez's 12-year-old son had just had a romantic breakup with a 12-year-old girl at the center in Placentia, and that the three adult victims were the girl's mother and two other relatives.

Police Sgt. Kelly Kenehan says after a short argument outside the center's front door, Rodriguez allegedly took out a pocketknife and stabbed the victims, leaving pools of blood.

None of the injuries were life-threatening and all three victims were treated at hospitals and released.

Rodriguez was released from jail after posting bond Tuesday."

    Terrible! That is sooo sad!
