From the page: "Three parrots on a perch Stamp
A man goes into a pet shop to buy a parrot. The shop owner points to three identical-looking parrots on a perch and says, "The parrot on the left costs $500." "Why does the parrot cost so much?" asks the customer. The owner says "Well, the parrot knows how to do legal research."

The customer then asks about the next parrot, to be told that this one costs $1,000 because it can do everything the other parrot can do plus it knows how to write a brief that will win any case.

Naturally, the increasingly startled customer asks about the third parrot, to be told that it costs $4,000. Needless to say, this begs the question, "What can it do?"

To which the owner replies, "To be honest, I've never seen him do a darn thing, but the other two call him Senior Partner.""

    From the page: "Miracles Stamp
A mangy looking guy goes into a restaurant and orders a hamburger. The waiter shakes his head and says, "No way. I don't think you can pay for it."

The guy says, "You're right. I don't have any money, but if I show you something you have never seen before, will you give me the food?"

    "Deal!"

The guy reaches into his coat pocket and pulls out a hamster and puts it on the counter. The hamster runs to the end of the counter, across the room, and up the piano. He jumps on the keyboard and starts playing Gershwin tunes.

The waiter says, "Wow, you're right. I've never seen anything like that before. That hamster is a really good piano player."

He brings the man a hamburger, which he promptly eats and asks for another.

"Money or another miracle," says the waiter.

The guy reaches into his coat again and pulls out a frog. He puts the frog on the counter, and the frog starts to sing. He has a marvelous voice and great pitch. A fine singer. A stranger from the other end of the counter runs over to the guy and offers him $300 for the frog.

The guy says, "It's a deal." He takes the money. The stranger takes the frog and runs out of the restaurant.

The waiter says. "Are you crazy? You sold a singing frog for $300? It must have been worth millions."

"Nah," says the guy. "The hamster is also a ventriloquist.""

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- An armed robber tried to hold up a North Nashville store, but he messed with the wrong customer.

The attempted robbery happened Sunday night at the Shop and Shop on Indiana Avenue. The robber walked into the Stop and Shop armed with a gun. His plan was to rob the store and the customers inside.

Police said the robber held up the clerk, demanded money, and then the gunman, in his 20's, turned the gun on a 77 year old customer.

Police said the elderly man is a feisty one. He started wrestling with the robber, and that's when the gun went off. In the struggle, the gunman was hit with the bullet in the leg.

He was sent to the hospital with those injuries. The 77year-old customer who stopped the robbery is okay. He walked away from the scene, and he did not receive medical care at the hospital."

  • Moms can nurse at work under Oregon bill | Local News |...

    Rated May 07 2007 1 review kgw.com

From the page: "SALEM, Ore. -- Babies should be able to get the benefit of mother's milk even if their moms are working, under a new law approved by the Oregon Senate.

The bill approved Friday requires employers with 25 or more workers to provide unpaid time and a private area to express breast milk every four hours at work.

Companies of that size employ about 70 percent of the state's workforce. The 28-1 vote was praised by Diane Garrett, a Portland breast-feeding advocate has been working on winning passage of the legislation for almost three years.

"To be able to see it happen is so satisfying," Garrett said. "It gives me such a sense of completion."

She said the legislation is an important step in a cultural shift toward acceptance of breast-feeding and of working women expressing milk while at work.

Garrett, who volunteers for the Nursing Mothers Counsel of Oregon, said the bill will help the more than 45,000 babies born in Oregon each year -- and their mothers.

"It's not about me," she said. "It's about mothers and babies being able to nourish and nurture each other."

Oregon ranks as the top breast-feeding state in the nation, followed by neighboring Washington state.

In 2005, Oregon was the only state to have more than 25 percent of mothers exclusively breast-feeding at six months -- with 27 percent, it nearly doubled the national average of 14 percent.

The Senate's vote puts House Bill 2372 on track to take effect in January. Minor amendments made by the Senate will need approval by the House, but that's assured because the House approved the bill by a 47-9 vote in March.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski has said he'll sign the bill into law."
