Has anyone else noticed this?
In The Apprentice (both US and UK), when someone is thrown out of the show in the boardroom, the host uses the phrase: You're fired!
You're fired? Surely the whole premise of the show is that it's one long job interview, right? How can they be fired if they've never even been hired in the first place?
Still, I guess "I'm sorry to inform you that you have not been selected to move onto the next stage of the interview process!" wouldn't have been quite as snappy.

For a long time, I've held the theory that, seeing as the Post Office charges - until recently - by weight, you can actually send whatever you want dirt cheap. You simply package your lead weights, elephants, cars, etc (whatever you happen to be sending) with a whole load of helium balloons! Voila!
Sadly, the kind folks at Brainiac: Science Abuse tested this out on their show the other day and found that while it did work to a degree, any savings made on postage costs would be easily outweighed* by the cost of the balloons and the helium.
Which leads me to believe the following:
1. The Post Office already considered it and set their pricing bands accordingly. The swines.
2. The Post Office and the HAABPDC (Helium And Associated Balloon Paraphernalia Distribution Council) are involved in an evil price-fixing scandal.
Regarding point 2, I think the time is right for us to overthrow this evil abuse of capitalism and rise up! Yes, comrades, it's time to take down the oppressors! It's time to fight the power! It's time to destroy the Post Office**!
* Pun intended, but then swiftly regretted.
** This includes Post Office Counters, Plc.
