On Friend Requests
This is specially addressed to the subset of first-time visitors that send requests without a word about it. Have you ever been to a party where you don't really know anybody yet? Well, what I often do in this situation is move from room to room, grab food or a drink at intervals, and generally try to look like I have an agenda or belong there, to disguise my initial discomfort. This can all be ruined if someone decides to blitz you before you've found your space, and believe me it happens.
I'm on all the usual social netwonks, and by now I'm totally accustomed to befriending randoms, and am pretty comfortable with it, really. Still, I like to maintain the illusions of personal space and protocol. As such, a simple message first, or even just being subscribed for a while, will earn you many Friendpoints.
