    The Taos Summer of Love kicked off last week when actor and artist Dennis Hopper, a former resident who is a frequent visitor, was made honorary mayor.

    He moved to Taos for 12 years after discovering it while directing and starring in "Easy Rider."

    Hopper shot scenes that featured Taos Pueblo, a local hot spring and the interior of the jail where Billy and Wyatt -- played by Hopper and Peter Fonda -- famously meet up with George, played by Jack Nicholson.





    The town of Taos will be feeling the love this summer as it celebrates the 40th anniversary of the 1969 classic film, Easy Rider, with a whole magical busload of events, including film shows, festivals, concerts, and even two art exhibitions at the Harwood Museum of Art featuring the works of actor Dennis Hopper, who starred in the film.

    Hopper lived in Taos for several years after the making of the film at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House, drawing a wave of internationally recognized artists to Taos. The summer-long celebration, dubbed Taos Summer of Love 2009, has sanctioned events going on nearly every day, from love bead contests and flower power parties to a Country Joe McDonald concert.

    SWINE FLU A HOAX BUT MARTIAL LAW ALL TOO REAL

    As officials all but guarantee deadlier form of H1N1 will return later this year, draconian response measures have been established with the aid of deceptive scaremongering and hype.The H1N1 virus itself has claimed less lives than a normal flu outbreak would be expected to kill, but the architecture of martial law in the form of draconian measures readied to combat a pandemic has been firmly locked into place.Health authorities are now toning down their apocalyptic predictions of a swine flu pandemic, after the virus proved to be milder than originally feared, but officials are warning that a deadlier form of the illness could return in autumn or winter.We know now what that preparation will entail - the creation of a vaccine to combat swine flu which, if recent history is to go by, will be more dangerous than the virus itself. Naturally, the vaccine will be voluntary to begin with but once another pandemic is unleashed and the fearmongering kicks into warp drive once again, calls for mandatory vaccination will reach a crescendo, and the media are already preparing American to accept that premise.In addition, the Department of Homeland Security has established an outline of how BATF, FBI, and U.S. Marshals will be called upon to impose mandatory quarantines in the event of a widespread swine flu outbreak in the U.S. Under executive order 13375, if citizens attempt to free themselves from "involuntary isolation" they will be subject to a $250,000 fine and one year in jail.
