Because, their nationally syndicated, top shelf, hosts FAILED to garner ANY audience. So rather than go out of business they switched formats.

Because at the exact same time, the government, is complaining about the lack of fiscal responsibility at these companies, they themselves are passing a stimulus bill worth hundreds of billions of which about only 11% is actually stimulus. The rest is all new lets tax you spending, in the middle of a bad recession.
