Power & Politics hosted, by Evan Solomon, on CBC Television from 5 to 7 pm ET, or 2 to 4 PT, is one of Canada's premiere political television newscasts.
Power & Politics follows CBC's new format, where discussions of political intrigue, or an interview, may be interrupted by breaking news at any moment. Though this format is lamented by many of the old guard who are still upset that Evan Solomon's predecessor, Don Newman retired and who miss his long standing successful political show, with Don's characteristic dry wit, polite demeanor and conservative style. Many of these naysayer's also lament that Susan Bonner would have been a more suitable replacement and indeed she would also have made a wonderful Political anchor for this show.
Nevertheless, Evan Solomon is quickly gaining new political converts with his sharp piercing intellect and refreshingly snappy wit. Fluently bilingual in both English and French (and I do mean absolutely fluently bilingual without a trace of an accent in either language), I believe that it won't take long for Evan to master the Canadian Political Landscape and win over the old guard as well.
Evan Solomon was a former reporter with the Globe and Mail, National Post and McLean's Magazine before coming to the CBC to co-host CBC's Gemini award winning Sunday Night: current affairs and news (see biography at http://www.cbc.ca/politics/story/2009/10/21/f-power-power-show-bio.html#socialcomments). Given this and his bilingual linguistic and intellectual political prowess, Evan Solomon and CBC's new 'Power & Politics' will become a hit with the Canadian public.
