The Zeitgeist Movement are a global network of people working together to build utopian societies starting with a self-sustaining test city thought up by Jacque Fresco. I have a feeling a market based transition path would make them more appealing - as there are many socialist / communist parallels that people will raise.
It looks like the Wikipedia page for the Zeitgeist Movement has criticisms censored, this is unfortunate since it would be a good place for citations of evaluation to be in common view.
