Okay, I know that most of you readers here at The Expeditioner are hostel-goers, myself included, but let me tell you about these things called "hotels." They're these giant structures where travelers can sleep -- just like in a hostel -- but in these "hotels" the bathrooms are magically cleaned every day, you don't need to wear flip-flops in the shower, you can sleep all night without having to use ear plugs, and sometimes, if you're lucky, when you come back in the middle of the day, you'll find a free chocolate or two on your pillow. Brilliant!

So in honor of The Expeditioner Travel Video Week, we're giving away a 3-night/4-day stay at the San Juan Marriott, Puerto Rico, where you can experience a "hotel" yourself!

The rules are simple:

Take one old and, as it turns out, less than reliable Volkwagen Combi. Paint it purple, and make it convertible. Fill it with a motley and changeable crew of South American musos, European backpackers and one dog. Hit the Panamericana, and drive north. That, baby, is where the sun is.
Before you do, though, you'll want to memorize these rules.

Odori-don, which literally means "dancing squid rice bowl," is a dish popular in the Japanese port city of Hakodate, as well as a newly-popular viral video craze. As FoodJapan.net describes the dish, Odori-don consists of a live squid with its head removed and served on top of a bowl of sushi rice, accompanied by sashimi prepared from the head, along with other seafood.

During my short stay in Puerto Rico, I decided to tackle my own Puerto Rico bucket list.
Watch as I make new friends over Bacardi, hit the dance floor and salsa, live it up like a rap star, and fly to the small island of Culebra to check out Flamenco Beach, consistently rated one of the beset beaches in the Caribbean, if not the world.
