A Lion of the Mainstream Print Media throws in its first 3 towels, and it's a sad day for journalism regardless of your politics.

    FROM THE REPORT:

"The Washington Post is closing its bureaus in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles at the end of this year, according to a memo obtained by POLITICO....

"At a time of limited resources and increased competitive pressure," Brauchli wrote, "it's necessary to concentrate our journalistic firepower on our central mission of covering Washington and the news, trends and ideas that shape both the region and the countryâ€s politics, policies and government."

Don't worry, they will still ignore the scandals that the Conservative Media, Websites, and Blogs have been reporting.

An interesting essay that makes a thought-provoking claim:

"Philosophically speaking, there are two Americas, each with a founding father."

Just who does the author claim these men are?

    John Calvin and Charles Darwin.

When the "Guardians" of the Language consider mainstreaming a word it behooves them to get the definition correct, and the folks at Oxford Universtiy Press have shown that they are clueless.

    As Michelle Malkin writes:

"People who make a living in words should really get a clue about the words they purport to define for the rest of the world."

I'm not the most religios person on the planet, but this powerful, moving, essay, is much needed food for thought, and should be read by anyone concerned about what's happening to America, and Freedom.

As Michelle Malkin decribes it on her own blog:

â€oeThe shadow of the jackboot …and a message about the transcendent power of faith over the worldy power of government from The Anchoress."

Why has it taken so long, in this supposedly enlightened age, for such an idea to get enough traction to finally reach the desk of the President?

    FROM THE ARTICLE:

"McCain, R-Ariz., and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., noted in a letter to Obama that both houses of Congress this summer passed their resolution urging a pardon. After the vote, the lawmakers wrote to Obama in August asking him to issue the pardon.

"Regrettably, we have not received a response from you or any member of your administration," they wrote in Friday's letter, adding they hoped that Obama would be eager to "right this wrong and erase an act of racism that sent an American citizen to prison."

The White House declined to comment on the letter."

Just as McCain is catching flack, from all sides, for proposing this, so will Obama catch flack from all sides, whatever he does, but especially if, as a Black Man, he refuses to go along and pardon Johnson.

Interesting story about a new site that will be sure to tic more than a few folks off, whatever their politics. ;-D

The site, linked to by the piece is down as of this review, whether permanently is unknown.

    FROM THE PIECE:

"based on the original Doomsday Clock that was created in 1947.

It uses the analogy of the United States being at a time that is "minutes to midnight", wherein midnight represents a Second American Civil War.

The number of minutes before midnight - measuring the degree of threat to America as a united nation - is periodically corrected; currently, the clock reads seventeen minutes to midnight, having advanced thirteen minutes since the election of Barack Obama as President....

Mr. Bevis created The American Doomsday Clock in the belief that it is very possible that there could be another Civil War in the United States."

    FROM THE STORY:

"In Illinois, in-home providers who care for the developmentally disabled are battling an aggressive power grab by the SEIU Purple Army and its Democrat enablers.

In Michigan, the unions are going after...home-based child care workers.

    That's right.

Last month, the Mackinac Center blew the whistle on the scheme and filed suit against the Michigan Department of Human Services to prevent illegal siphoning of so-called "union dues" from state child care assistance payments to home-based day care providers. Instead of an executive order, the Michigan government abetted the unions by creating a "shell" corporation through the use of an "interlocal agreement" between the state's DHS and a local community College."

    A great article!

If, by the title of the piece, or the statement below, you think you know where this essay is going, think again. ;-D

    FROM THE PIECE:

"Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech..."

Nowhere does it say that you are granted the right of freedom of speech, it says you have it, were born with it, and the government cannot do anything about it.

But that's not how it's viewed or even talked about by politicians these days."

    An excellent essay!

If you take nothing else away from it, then remember this:

"Conservatives are bypassing mainstream media. Conservatives blogs are on the rise and media is loathe to admit that we're dominating social media networks and the best sellers' lists.

The collective consciousness of half the country's population has changed: we stopped measuring our validity and successes by the media and by our enemies' criticisms. We embraced the spirit of the underdog. We realized that GOP is not synonymous with conservatism....

The tea party movement has challenged the GOP to get back on track or risk losing its grip on the right wing. It's reminded Democrats that a slick marketing campaign coupled with paid activism isn't the same as a groundswell of real change and the reason that Democrats are so hostile towards it is because they've never before encountered it...

The tea party is far from over."

This was a speech that, if Thomas Sowell, or Bill Cosby, had given a variation of it, would have had many on the Left finding fault with it.

Aside from the fact it is as much about Obama (Inaccurately in some places, as commentors point out), as about edumication, and staying in skool, it IS a very nice speech with important messages to kids.

    Read the whole speech....

    FROM THE ARTICLE:

"I think the White House and Obama fouled this up from the beginning, making it look much more political than necessary, and gave their critics a boatload of ammunition with which to attack them.

The speech turned out to be entirely innocuous. But by asking teachers to impress upon children the need to "help President Obama," they made it look blatantly political. They seem to have forgotten that they're the public servants, and that the people do not live to serve political masters.

As Frank Wilson puts it in another context, Americans see themselves as citizens, not subjects, with the President only of a higher rank for the temporary period of time that we put him there.

This has been incompetently handled from beginning to end, including the highly embarrassing scheduling that inadvertently excluded millions of students from the speech.

Ironically, the most controversial part of the speech may be its closing, when Obama invokes the Creator in asking God to bless America.

Will the atheist activists let that slide?"
