Will the iPad save the magazine industry (or the print media at large)? Why didn't Apple invite magazine industry publishers to their keynote intro of the iPad (why would they even call it an iPad when in 2007 Mad TV featured a skit about an Apple tampon called the "iPad")? There's always a method to their "lack" of attention to certain media and tech trends, is my guess. They bide their time, and when the tide seems just right, they set sail. I suspect that a standardized, digital/interactive/online-only magazine model awaits us in the near future. If anything, it'll save print media publishers the cost and resources involved with tearing down our trees and fucking up our ecosystem.
Of course, the main hurdle is getting people to vibe with actually "paying for" and "subscribing to" online content.
