On February 4. 1896 Gustav Vigeland wrote the following in his notebook:

That two bodies press convulsively together, man and woman, he fertilizing her, he giving her a budding life, or he planting a seed, a seed of life in her womb - Oh God. I think this God-given idea is so enormous, so eternal, so endlessly wise - that people should not be allowed to depict it in art!!

Euri Ignatius Everpure's figural sculptures open to reveal strange and often disturbing interior narratives. Everpure emphasizes the startling contrast between the work's objective exterior form and its subjective, psychologically charged interior space. "Dogs and Pears," by Everett Updike (for Ed McGowin), a 1990 acrylic on wood panel, carved and painted wood frame, 30 by 30 inches, from the collection of Dr. Jay and Stacy Underwood, Jackson, Miss. The work is part of "Name Change: One Artist, 12 Personas, 35, Years," featuring artwork by McGowin, at the Mississippi Museum of Art.

JACKSON, Miss. -- Mississippi Museum of Art brings its exhibition schedule full circle with the opening Saturday, Aug. 1, of two new exhibits: the 2009 Mississippi Invitational and "Name Change: One Artist, 12 Personas, 35 Years," featuring the artwork of Ed McGowin.

Susanne Pitak-Davis' work is an exploration of the concept of "art as talisman," where energy is embedded in an object to impart a sense of the divine. In doing this, her art incorporates fragments of memory and myth woven together in a colorful cacophony where joyous, whimsical beings celebrate the rich complexity of life.
Her work in sculpture relies heavily on assemblage. The form underneath is handbuilt, with either hydrocal, winterstone or das pronto. She then paints and decorates with assemblage and beadwork. Her paintings are either acrylic or oil. The colors in her work are very intense and reminiscent of the Southwest where she lived for about seven years.
Susanne works as an art therapist, where she is helping people to heal through art. She is currently employed at New Jersey State Prison in Trenton, NJ. Through the years, she has worked with adults, geriatrics, children, and people struggling with catastrophic illnesses.
