I used to hate wearing dresses when I was little - it got in the way of running and was more into Ghostbusters and Transformer re-runs growing up, but there have been some tough girls out there in cartoons.. think of She-ra and the lone female smurf the girls in Scooby Doo, April from Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and the latest .. Dora the Explorer. Most of the examples she's talking about are so old school based on old PRE-EXISTING stories, Disney in partnership with Pixar is changing with the times and coming up with their own original scripts now. Thiink Shrek! the Princess not only marry's the beast, but they both remain ogres and have cute ogre babies, plus have lots of difft. species of friends with even a mixed species marraige. Girls are way more sporty and have too many varied interests to get stuck in 'i want to be a princess' phase. It's usually more ambitious ... such as: 'I want to be a princess AND a doctor,AND an astronaut AND a magician.. etc.'
The bottom line however, is it really depends on each individual taste, plus cartoons are evolving.. there's way more out there than Disney. I think she has some good points, but I don't buy into the Disney is trying to do away with Mother's theory. I'd be more worried about Barbie or Bratz dolls messing with your girls head about body issues.

DOWN with CAndyCorn! (Actually, I shouldn't knock it because I've never had it.. I just find American sweets to taste funny, it's the type of sugar they use in it I think). But, it really doesn't look appetizing. Surely these aren't that popular at Halloween are they? )
