A drugged up beat up black man wanders through my back yard onto my porch and asks for help. 911 has the ambulance on the phone with me as I describe his injuries and they tell me the police and medics are on the way. As I'm talking he gets up and into a shouting match with four other black males out in the street.
The police let them all go and tell me there's nothing they can do. 30 minutes later they let them go again. 60 minutes later they finally load the injured man into an ambulance at the drug house on the other side of the block.
A full hour after I said he needs medical attention.
I've always felt safe in my house, but after three incidents in two months the next person on my porch is going to have to sit down and shut up. Maybe staring up at a double barreled twelve gauge will explain it clearly. Political posturing has replaced safety here. Flavor Flav said it best. -

They found a woman's body here today behind Emily's meadow. I can never move fast enough. Ever. On November 23rd I got the board of health to condemn this house. I've boarded it up time and again.
Now as a father who feels for whoever this girl was, I just want the damn thing torn down. -

But I had good news in the afternoon.
The high school AV program is interested in video taping council meetings for me so we can post them on the web site. To me that allows several different things to happen and they're all good.
