Not a believer inside the mosque, am I
Nor a pagan disciple of false rites
Not the pure amongst the impure
    Neither Moses, nor the Pharaoh

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

Not in the holy Vedas, am I
Nor in opium, neither in wine
Not in the drunkard`s intoxicated craze
Niether awake, nor in a sleeping daze

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

In happiness nor in sorrow, am I
Neither clean, nor a filthy mire
Not from water, nor from earth
Neither fire, nor from air, is my birth

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

    Not an Arab, nor Lahori
    Neither Hindi, nor Nagauri
    Hindu, Turk, nor Peshawari
Nor do I live in Nadaun

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

Secrets of religion, I have not known
From Adam and Eve, I am not born
I am not the name I assume
Not in stillness, nor on the move

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

I am the first, I am the last
None other, have I ever known
I am the wisest of them all
    Bulleh! do I stand alone?

Bulleh! to me, I am not known

heard the original version of Tangled Up in Blue today and I realized that what I really love about the song besides the lyrics and their sense of answerless searching is the drums that were missing from the original. The dynamics as well as changes in frequency of punctuation create this building tension and lend a whole new dimension to the lyrics.

And then she opened up a book of poems
                          And handed it to me
                          Written by an Italian poet
                          From the 13th century
And every one of them words rang true
                          And glowed like burning coals
                          Pouring off every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you
                          Tangled up in blue

"I don't know what I can tell you. The only way to really make it -- anywhere -- is to put every bit of your being into the thing that only you can provide. The only angle is the art that you choose, that only you can provide. And to do that, you have to be quiet for a long time and find out what you bring forth. You have to know what's in yourself -- all your eccentricities, all your banalities, the full flavor of your woe and your joy. What does it look like? What does it feel like? What makes it different from everybody else's. It's totally subjective. You're just given the task of bringing it up."

The self has flowed out into the world and, through its moods and sensations, has absorbed the world into itself. But since this means that the world has also flowed into the self, all barriers between the two have been removed. If things are no longer solid, stable entities, then neither is the self. And when facts disappear, so do values. Nothing is left within or between individuals except moods and sensations, none of which is more justified or more meaningful than any other.[36]

all the perfection [artists] give to their works, all the depths of experience which they pour into them, are in vain. They remain more silent, less able to express themselves, than people in ordinary life, who are locked up in themselves. Their works may be the highest achievement of which man is capable, yet they themselves are the most unfortunate creatures of all and least capable of achieving redemption
