There are numerous blocks upon blocks of these old, abandoned, neglected neighbourhoods throughout downtown Detroit and yes, the homeless and abuse addicts have palatial hovels to squat in. For those blogging about the demise of the American car ruining Detroit, there was a severe racial divide (especially in the 60's) that made the rich move on out and leave their old family estates behind for a new palace in the burbs. Now, back to the issue of the photos, horrific to see such achitectual and historical wonder just sit there rotted, demolished my neglect. As for the old Michigan Central Station, blame that on a greedy, old, power-miser who's sitting on that property and places in its hood in hopes of expanding/twinning the Ambassador Bridge to Canada. Only, it's not happening. Detroit is a city with pride and soul though, I love Detroit.
