Every day at Holy Spirit Church in Fremont, CA, all four choirs--from children to teens to others who've sang in choirs for years--get together for a parish Christmas concert. This slightly shorter version (just over two minutes) features The Karilagan Singing Group with mucho photos of Holy Spirit Choir members.

A year ago Bryce Marshall, who is Director of Strategic Services with Knotice, a direct digital marketing firm, appeared on IM-Mobile. During our discussion, we did a role play about a fictitious furniture chain in the Midwest struggling with mobile and digital marketing challenges. Bryce impressed me with his strategic thinking. So I invited him back to talk about mobile marketing trends.

Jean Dargis, former Choir Director and Administrator at St. Victor's Church, died the other day. The 15 minute slide show/video celebrates the lives of Jean and his wife, Mary Ruth, who passed late last year. Both were great friends and I miss them both.

The music, recorded by the church choir and transferred from two VHS video tapes (!), was taken from Easter and Pentecost Masses of the early 1990's. You'll find the audio quality remarkably good considering the source.

During the ten years I sang in the choir at St. Victor's, I had the extraordinary opportunity to learn how to sing choral music from masters of the art. (Jean graduated from Julliard and Mary Ruth from Peabody.)

We sang a variety of musical styles from Mozart to contemporary liturgical songs. Jean and Mary Ruth, plus our two organists and 65 choir members (yes, 65) brought an enhanced spirituality to each Mass--something i've never experienced in my life. Without doubt, the congregation would agree.

But it was Jean and Mary Ruth's humility, caring and love that we cherish the most. Going to rehearsals on Monday evenings was a joy. In fact, for many years, we practiced at the Dargis' home--basses and tenors in the kitchen, sopranos in the dining room and altos in an add-on room attached to the garage.

I hope you enjoy the slide show/video and agree with Jean and Mary Ruth that those who sing pray twice.

It's amazing how far we've come in a few years. Anyone who followed the elections in 2010 will remember when new and mainstream media-social networks, broadcasting, journalism, the Internet and mobile-collaborated.

As National Public Radio reported today, 2008 was a "coming-out party for the Internet." But 2010 is turning into a national mashup.
