Someone once me asked why the Japanese make their teacups so thin and delicate that they break easily. My answer was that they're not too delicate, but it's just that you don't know how to handle them. You must adjust yourself to the environment, and not vice versa.

The Iranian "be a man" campaign:
Any regime that does not tolerate ridicule, deserves ridicule.
This Iranian site allows men to post images of themselves wearing the hijab to show solidarity with Majid Tavakoli and 2 others, who spent 15 months in prison for for "insulting religion and the country's leadership" in a student magazine in 2006.
I appreciate that many of these "woman" images originate from outside Iran and/or have been 'Photoshopped', but I also acknowledge that the hijab, regarded by many as a symbol of female oppression, is being used to highlight the feeling of political and religious oppression by the Iranian government.

Lilla vackra Anna
Rated • 1 review • poetry, song, svenska, swedish, alstermark • biarne.nu
A beautifully melancholy song(in Swedish) about "beautiful, little Anna" by Swedish poet Bengt Henrik Alstermark(1800-1840), sung here by Finn Kalvik and Cajsa-Stina Ã...kerström.
The fiddle interludes in this song may sound a little old fashioned to modern ears but they are completely in keeping with the setting of this poem and Alstermark's youth. Instrumental musicians were scarce in the sparcely populated, rural areas of 19th century Scandinavia. As a result, talented fiddle players would travel around from village to village playing at various events such as dances and weddings. They were inevitably young, unattached men and, at that time, they were the cultural equivalent of modern-day rock stars, enjoying and cultivating similar popularity and reputation. Local girls, having a limited choice of life partner, would fantasize and be in awe of them, whilst their worried parents would frown disapprovingly and try to stand guard (cf. the "barn-stormers" in 19th century USA).
Kärleken är livets bäste vänn. (Love is Life's best friend.)
Finn Kalvik sang Norway's 1981 Eurovision Song Contest entry, "Aldri i Livet", the song that famously scored "null points" for his country. Despite this, he quite rightly enjoys immense respect and popularity in Scandinavia.
BTW - When will SU support foreign characters?! How do Swedish users cope with this problem?... Ã,, ä Ã- ö Ã... Ã¥ Æ æ à ø -

Is this LOLworthy site a subsidiary of "Imams 'R' Us" or "Priestesses 2 Go"? But seriously, if there is a site that can offer online deification, I might be interested. ;-) -
