I think Notre Dame should retain its two theology requirements because taking theology at my Catholic colleges helped me see my faith through new light that I haven't been exposed to after years of seeing the Bishops pressing importance on certain issues I didn't agree with. But after, I realized that my Catholic faith isn't just about blind obedience and though I don't follow some the Church's teachings, I try to accept it and be as good a Catholic as I can be. I think taking theology helped me reconcile my Catholic identity with my progressive views in a large aspect. Not to mention, I think religious ignorance is widespread in our society and I think we should have some idea about what a certain religious group believes before we judge them. Not to mention, you can't learn about a faith by just reading their writings despite what some atheists claim.
